V ' lnlo.-iii l'il-lni, l4itli.i1tls, XY'lui,- JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY It is with mingled emotions that we, the class of '56, look back on our junior year at Hampden-Sydney. Wlieii we begin to remem- ber, our thoughts very naturally are on the good times-the parties, the bull-sessions. the few gray cells that we managed to cultivate in the mean- time, the flicks, the lake, and the night the tree fell on Nlorton Hall. Herein lie the things that we will talk about when our offspring are wear- ing Fat hats and signs. Nor is it difficult to remember the hard times -the Monday tests, the all-night biology ses- sions, the trips to the Deans office, the May labs, and that last exam. They were all tough, but somehow we managed to live through them all. Well worth recalling is our freedom which has provided us with the opportunity of moulding our own character and corollating our own prin- ciples. XVe also like to think about those close friends, professors, administrators, and speakers who have helped steer us along the paths which we have chosen and are choosing to take. It is also gratifying to think about the honors and compliments that we, both as individuals and as members of the Student Body, have won -about the athletic teams which have distin- guished themselves not only in prowess but in sportsmanship-about the fine academic stand- ing of our school, and about its administrators and instructors that have set this standard- about the comments of outsiders, who have been impressed by the general character of the H-S students. These are the things which we shall remember as we move along to our long-waited Senior year, the year which marks the trivia of our lives. And we must look ahead with a more mature feeling of responsibility and with a more cau- tious eye toward the future, as we prepare to face that hnal test as the 180th Senior Class of Hampden-Sydney College. - LAWRENCE H. Hooviaiz, JR., Historian. - I 9 5 li 28
