IIC ll OFFICERS ifxvss :ravine suwnorv, JR. RIVES SEBRELL HARDY Vice-Presidenl THOMAS JOSEPH FERRELL, JR Secrelaryelreasurei ERNEST TRICE THOMPSON, JR. JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Tempus fugif-and we, fhe Class of '54 are on fhe Ihreshold of being seniors. Only fhree shorf years ago, we came fo Hampden-Sydney a herd of shalcey, insecure, lowly freshmen, and now if is barely conceivable fhaf our iunior year has fermin- afed. We have changed-gradually and unnofice- ably-changed fo beffer prepared and more mafure men. This, of course, does nof mean Ihaf we are no longer gay and full of vifalify. Buf if does mean fhaf underlying our oufward appear- ances, we have grown in many direcfions since our freshman year. During fhe pasf fhree years, mosf of us who have remained af Hampden-Sydney are fhose who have escaped fhe ever beckoning finger of Uncle Sam and fhose who have lcepf fheir grades up. Many have gone-buf 'rhere sfill remains a sfrong group acfive in exfra-curricular acfivifies, in afh- lefics, in social life, in sfudies, and in having a good fime. As freshmen we heard Ihaf we were a brillianf class: few of us believe fhaf now, In HAMPDEN- fhree years we have mef foci many difficulf courses and falxen home foo many low grades. Af Hampden-Sydney we have made fasf as- sociafions, and if would be difficuif indeed fo find in anofher college fhe brofherhood fies and close friendships fhaf have developed among us. Alfhough we are definifely nof wearing frowns or in fhe dumps consfanfly, we cannof help buf realize fhaf we are living in a fasf, ever changing, perilous world. We lcnow fhaf we have a fremen- dous faslc and responsibilify cuf Ouf for us. Ahead of us lies a final year, by fhe end of which we are sfrongly convinced we will be ready and able fo falce up our role in life as useful and mafure cifizens, fully realizing fhe problems and crises fhaf lie ahead in fhis world foday. lf is our ambifion fo have prepared ourselves af Hampden- Sydney so fhaf we mighf play our parf well in order fo leave fhis world in a liffle beffer shape fhan if was when we came info if.
