D., to accompany the photograph of him which we are sure all Alumni and friends of the College will be most glad to have in their possession. The facts, though few, mean much, and all those who had personal acquaintance with Prof. Holladay will know how to read between the lines. He was horn on February 23d, 1832, at Bellefonte, Spottsylvania county, Va. He entered Hampden-Sidney at the age of seventeen, was a member of the li. 9. H. fraternity, the only fraternity then at Hampden- Sidney, and graduated, with first honor, in 1853. He was immediately elected by the Board of Trustees, Tutor in the Preparatory School. In 185-1 he Went to the University of Virginia, coming out at the end of the session with diplomas on Latin, Greek and Mathematics, besides attending the Physics class. He was at once elected Professor of Physical Science at Hampden-Sidney, where he remained until his death, July 23d, 1891.1 7
