Looking on good times as well as bad. Our freshmen year was pretty rough. We really knew nothing about what was going on, but by our sophomore year it all became very plain. Next thing you know we’re juniors and are sponsoring the junior-senior prom, which by the way was a great success. Jo Ellen Thil- mont was crowned Prom Queen and was es- corted by Joe Sanchez. Prom King was Allan Kuntz. Also during our junior year, Tom Manzo went to Kentucky on a survival mission. He sur- vived, of course, and returned when the week was over. Indiana Girls State called on two more of the class to attend a week of government educa- tion down state. Tammy Faught and Terri Banninger. Suddenly our senior year approaches and we’re ordering our announcements and gowns. To go further or to stop is the answer we’re all looking for. Our years we planned ahead, And now our high school days are almost dead . . . But we had fun, working, playing, relaxing, studying, We’ll always be, in our minds, number one . . . The Journ- alism Graphics class deals with the Hammond Tech Chart. There are various duties involved with the yearbook. Pictures need to be taken, p e o pie identified, copy written and the whole thing layed out in the proper style. Hammond Tech is the only high school in the area that does a paste -up yearbook. A paste -up book means seeing the actual page as it will appear in the yearbook, all pictures and copy are pasted to the page. Staff positions include: editor -the person who is in charge of the yearbook, assistant editor, advertising editor, advertising manager, sports editor and photo- graphers. There are many more positions of e q ual importance but because of space cannot be mentioned. Cindy Ruiz (editor in chief). SHOPS 146 Shops Students in our industrial k . shops demonstrate many various skills. The most popular shops are the ones mainly used in the Cal umet region. Many students realize the evergrowing need to become trained in a skill. This is proved as students come from all over the Calumet region to attend Tech ' s shops. Students are taught to the best of the in- structors ' ability in new methods used in modern day industry. Do you see any work you might like to do? Look throught the next few pages and see. You might. Dennis Williams and Dave Harmon demonstrate their skills in pipefitting shop. U. S. 20 938-8000 ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Being editor of the yearbook is not an easy task. You’re faced with a great deal of responsibilities in trying to make a book everyone will enjoy. 1 cannot take all the credit for the planning of the book; that had been done since the end of last year. For that 1 owe a great deal of thanks to Lori Henson since she put a number of hours into planning the yearbook. 1 did make some changes which 1 hoped were for the best. This wasn’t an easy year, starting out with a new advisor and only a few returning staff members, but we managed. There are many people who worked on the book, a few more than others and 1 thank all those people. What is a yearbook without photographers, is a question I find myself asking. Well, for that answer all 1 have to say is thanks to Harry and Tom of Bodie’s, for without them, it would be hard to process a yearbook. We also cannot forget the great work of our own photographers, Barry McCormack, John Doughty, and Gerald Doughty, who produced a number of great photographs. Many of the page s have fascinating drawings which are undoubtedly good.. Those pages could not have been possible without the creativity of a couple of great students, Vidal Sendejas and Mike Sanchez. 1 thank them both. 1 thank Mrs. Schroeder for putting up with me and for her help in getting the book together. It couldn’t have been easy for her, trying to help us get things organized, while still trying to figure out how we did different things, but she managed. Again 1 thank the 1979 Chart Staff, for without them it would have been im- possible to produce this yearbook. I a l s o thank the whole student body for without them there would be no Tech and no yearbook. 1 hope you enjoy your yearbook and it will be something you can always look back on and remember how it was. THANKS! Cindy Ruiz Editor 176
