Editor Candy Faught checks astrological globe in library. Sun sign jewelry depicts personality and pride. 1 Popularity and prominence of a s t rology as well as other occult- related interests seem to have made a comeback im recent years. Ha r dly a per- son can admit to not knowing his sun sign, and people dis- play their bi r th signs proudly by wear ing jewelry and often stating how alike their char- acteristics are to the sun sign characteristics known. Astrology magazines and guides grow in number and subscriptions as people search for answers through means not pursued ambitiously for hun- dreds of years. « 5 Related studies which delve inta the world of future poasi- bilitie s include Taro cards and the pendulum. A rebirth of intere st in the powers of the pyramid, the lost continent Atlantis, and the great unex- plained feats of early man are being questioned and studied again as man seeks ways tc explain himself. And to under- stand and control himself, many have returned to other older arts such as yoga and meditation. Above left: Practice with using the Taro cards can yield insight into the future. Above right: The Pendulum is reputedly to answer questions by its swing. 6 Above left: Meditation has increased in popularity in re- cent years. The human aura which extends out- side the human body has recent - been subject to scientific study. 7 Perhaps musical selections concerning the Age of Aquar - iushas stirred the astro - logical interest of youth. Not only do people realize their sun signs, but many claim their natures - - fire, air, earth, or wateK The fire signs include Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius . Fire individu als are known for their leadership capabi- lities, their love of freedom and action, and innovative ideas. Their natures can ' fire others to action. M r . Charles Emlund (Leo) puts the fire into his wrestlers. Mr. Larry Maka (Sag. ) dem- onstrates precision as he ex- plains a difficult math situa- tion. John Backe ( A r i e s ) shows leadership potential as Times editor and co-editor of Here. Leatha Johnson (Leo) starred in Done to Death. CheriTownly (Sag.) lives up to her traits. Valedictorian of her class, Cheri has been a leader at Tech the past four years. Scorpion Candy Faught was pom pon at Tech. Lisa Massengale (Pisces) ex- c el led in theatrical produc- tions. Scorpion Mari Jo Thilmont (second from right) proclaims ' there is too much to do in too little time and nobody under- stands. Watery signs include Can- cer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Scorpions, often considered the misunderstood sign, are energetic, independent, pas- sionate, with strong likes and dislikes. Cancers are talk- ative and easily influenced, and sympathetic, and Pisces individuals are gentle, reli- able, very kind and sensitive, though sometimes not too lucky. Joyce Foster (Cancer) used those Cancerian talking qua l- ities to build school spirit. Nancy Carlson (Pisces) achieves in sports, drama, and keeps a high academic record. Gemini, Libra, and Aquar- ius comprise the element of air. Libra individuals show a balancing tendency and delib- erate a considerable length of time before arriving at a de- cision. Aquarius people show great patience and must since their innovative ideas are sev- eral years ahead of schedule. Geminis makegood friends, arefunto be with, and usually have a following of fans. The students of Mr. Ted Erikson (Aquarius) certainly think he may be 50 years a- head. Glen London (Gemini) shows versatility of his sign by help- ing drama production, 12 Sue Henson (Aquarius)served as COE president and led many activities. Brenda Webb (Libra) claims Joe (Gemini) Sanchez shows even have trouble deciding popularity known to his sign. what to wear to scho ol. The earth signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, show qualities of determination, pa- tience, and stradfast ne ss, These people are talented in areas of music and sports as well as the arts. Due to their persistent prodding after their chosen professions, earth people tend to show great financial gains throughout their lives. 14 MMH - (Capricorn) Ken B r i d g man. shows his excellence in draft- ing abilities. Paul Rincon (Virgo) has ta- lent as an artist and has des- igned winning display fo r many Tech Publications. Helen Kingston (Virgo) lives up to vocal talents of the Earth signs by performing with the Tech Folksingers. The 1977 Chart Staff decided to take it on. While researching this vast subject, we came across many pro- blems. Astrology is a very detailed science and what information we found was in too much detail for people to understand and enjoy it. Heres where our next job came in. We then had to transform the information found into an enjoyable style which people would understand and enjoy. After much research and work, I am pleased to say it all ended in a success. I hope you ' ll enjoy your 1977 Chart because we enjoy- ed putting it together for you. I would like to thank the many people who made it possible for our yearbook to be such a success. I want to thank Sam for her many hours of work and patience. Without her we never would have made it. I want to thank Harry and Bodie for their great picture taking and cooperation at deadline time. Also our own photographer Herbie Waldron, who helped out and did a great job. Last but not least I want to thank our 1 77 Chart Staff who were on the ball and got things going so that we could have as good a year- book as we had hoped for. Thanks again.
