Tradition Takes Its Place With everything changing from year to year it’s nice to see some- thing stay the way it is. Homecoming is an annual event. One week is set aside during the football season so the students of Tech can show their loyalty and spirit for their school. The traditional homecoming floats were assembled in the Tech parking lot. The parade left the lot at 6:00 and went to the dark playing field. Judging of the floats took place at 5:00. Another tradition during the week is selecting the homecoming queen and her court. Five girls from each class were selected by the students. Then the students once again voted for the girl of their choice from the five nominees. The whole student population was allowed to vote for the queen. The 1971-72 queen was Karen Karnefel. Her court was: Left to Right, Pam Goodpaster, Soph- omore, Gwenn Burns, Senior, Karen Karnefel, Homecoming queen, Kathy Cole, Junior, and Donita Dross, Freshman. The girls’ escorts were chosen from the Lettermans Club. With the dress code lifted certain days as mod day and short day had to be abolished. But other activities were introduced to take their place. This year such days a Class Color day, Hat Day, Kiddy Day, Clash Day, and Loyalty Day were celebrated. After school one day the Junior and Senior girls played the traditional Powder Puff game. The Juniors came out on top. Homecoming court: Pam Goodpaster, Gwenn Burns, Karen Karnefel is elected homecoming queen for 1972. John Bacha is her escort. 14
