Officers were: G. Gragido, president; Moss, vice-president; W. DeRolf, secretary; Good, treasurer; Stempkowski, sergeant-at-arms. The sponsors were the coaches. VARSITY FOOTBALL Tech ' s football record was 2 wins, 6 losses, and one tie. The 1955 football season was a satisfactory one, despite the won and loss record, according to Coach Carlson. The reason is that 14 lettermen will be returning next fall, so this season gave the boys a great wealth of ex- perience. Coach stated the team ' ' was outsized and outweighed in every contest but they displayed a zest for football and played very interesting ball at all times. Two of the men on the team were elected to the Hammond Times All- Star Team. They were Tuleja, tackle, and Preda. B-TEAM FOOTBALL The Junior Varsity Football Team played a limited schedule of only three games this season. There were indications that members of the team would be material for the next varsity team. They opened the season against Clark, being defeated 20-14, were out-classed by Whiting, 46-6, and lost a close contest to Hammond High by 14-6. Minor awards went to Alonza, Brooks, Cobb, Harwood, Hendrix, Hols- claw, McClung, O ' Rourke, Pinkerton, Ritter, Sopyto, Singer, Urbanczyk, Vinson, Volkman, and Woodey. FRESHMAN FOOTBALL The Freshman Football Team had a season ' s record of one win and five losses, the win against Clark and the losses to Whiting, Washington, Morton, Irving, and Hammond High. Coach Hoemann stated, though, that half the boys had never played football before and half were 130 pounds and under in weight. Freshman award winners were: Blagg, Bragiel, Brom, Croyle, Eichen- seh, Harwood, Hood, Kluberg, Kisbacki, Landers, Murphy, Reach, Sack- ville, Seelig, Schmidt, Wilson, White, and Hendron. VARSITY BASKETBALL Despite the 6-15 record, stated Coach Bereolos, the Hammond Tech Tigers provided a thrilling basketball season during the 1955-56 school year. Even though they were inexperienced, they gave a fine account of themselves during the entire season. Returning players will be Yeager, Urbanczyk, Sorbello, Szabo, Mon- tague, Folta, Day, and Bukowski. Rosenau and Szczudlak were managers. B-TEAM BASKETBALL Coach Vieau said, Tech ' s 1955-56 B-Team had its most successful season in 15 years. The record was 13 wins and 7 losses, but that is not the most important aspect. Mostly the team consisted of sophomores and five of the seven losses were by two points or less. They also added a city championship and a win over Gary Roosevelt, B-Team Champions of Gary, to their record. FRESHMAN BASKETBALL The 1955-56 Freshman Basketball team won only two games while losing fourteen. The following boys were awarded minor letters: Eaton, Habil, Lamb, Meyer, Schoot, White, Wilson, and Davis, manager. BASEBALL Coach Vieau said, Next season should be much better than last year. We have lettermen back at most positions. He predicted best hitters should be DeRolf, Petrovich, and Garner. GOLF Coach Carlson said, We are still in the process of rebuilding with sophomores Bognar, Sapyta, and Dash leading the way. Coach feels that, with these boys coming back and some promising freshmen com- ing in, we should be in contention for the sectional championship a year or so. Tech had four lettermen back for the golf team. They were Bognar, Good, Gragida, and Sapyta. WRESTLING The Tech wrestlers placed second in a sectional involving nine teams and second in a six team conference meet. Th team was composed of mostly first and second year men thus lacking experience and balance. Major letter winners were Beyler, Jacobs, Croyle, Schmidt, O ' Rourke, Boren, Tuleja, Brooks, and Wilson. Those who qualified for a state meet were Beyler, Brooks, and O ' Rourke. TRACK AND FIELD The 1956 Track and Field team was green but will improve, said Coach Bereolos. The lettermen were Stempkowski, Crosek, Yeager, Granger, Skish, DeRolf, Golem, Richardson, and Day. A bright prospect, said Coach, is Snorton, a dash and 880 relay man. CROSSCOUNTRY This year ' s crosscountry team had its best season in five years, finish- ing 13th in the Conference and 5th in the Sectional. Top man was Mandzij, a senior; second, Yeager, a sophomore; and third, Skish, a junior and also captain-elect. The lettermen were: Cordell, Dash, Granger, Mandzij, Millies, Skish, and Yeager. With six or seven men eligible to return. Coach Vieau says, they should have a fairly representative team next year if all boys return and do what they are capable of doing. TENNIS The tennis team had another undefeated season this year. The record was eight wins and no losses. Wins were two each over Clark, Hammond High, E. C. Roosevelt and E. C. Washington. They were defeated in an East-West playoff 4-1. The team will lose lettermen Haworth, Halon, and Adney. With five lettermen returning. Coach Parsons predicts, A Western Division Cham- pionship. 109 BOARD OF EDUCATION Front Row: Charles N. Scott; Har- old Chase, president; Lee L. Cald- well, superintendent of schools; John M.
