HHSers found enjoyment in a variety of social activities. Annual events such as Campus Life’s Scream in the Dark” spook house attracted a number of Wildcats, as did Saturday browsing at River Oaks Shopping Center and more quiet times at the nearby Sandridge Nature Center. Furthering school relationships, couples frequented local movie theaters, concerts and school sponsored events. Searching for favorite albums, Gratia Allen and Jim Mazur visit new Rockin’ Horse Records store. Enjoying autumn, freshmen Dianna Larkin and Denise Daniels relax at Sandridge Nature Center in Illinois. Social Life 1 3 Gathering at their lockers, juniors Dede Bailey, Cynthia Gates and Joyce Anderson meet between classes. 1 4 School Life After eating their lunches, Hammond High students utilize the remainder of their lunch hours to socialize with friends. Bells ringing, lockers slamming and friends shouting greetings to one another all made up school life for HHSers. Inclusive of classes, teachers, tests, after school practices and club activites, students found their lives crowded by busy schedules most of the time. The importance of passing tests was littled by the importance of experiences and knowledge gained when among peers and authority. When all totaled, school life at HHS prepared students for adult life. With the halls cleared, Beatrice Davis finds a quiet spot to study for a next hour exam. School life keeps stu- dents busy, readies them for future Keeping clear of hall traffic, Gloria Carpenter and Ken Jones make plans for later in the evening. Following routine of lunchtime, senior Arcce Hampton returns tray after finishing meal. School Life 1 5 Beautiful fall weather attracts sophomores John Moore and Jim Schwcisthal for a game of basketball. Sunshiny Saturday brings junior boys together for an afternoon football game at Indi-Illi park. 1 6 Home Life Students use after-school hours, run errands, relax After school jobs, helping out at home, homework and running errands filled HHSers time outside of school. Meeting with friends, students walked home together during warm-weather months. Some students hurried to get to their part- time jobs, while others rushed home to baby- sit and help out with family duties. Homework was completed accompanied by stereo music or favorite television programs. Helping out with the grocery shopping, junior Nancy Laskarin compares prices for best selection.
