She had confidence in us when we had none in ourselves. Her willingness to help others learn and her willingness to learn herself has benefited all those around her. We, the class of 1984, proudly and graciously dedicate this year’s “Spotlight” to Mrs. Elizabeth Friedrich. She’s a special lady, and there is no way we can repay her for what she has done for us, but this dedication is our way of saying, “Thank you, Mrs. Friedrich!” A Smile for Every Day Proud Teacher A New Day Beginning Two years ago, we lost a classmate and a dear friend. Fred was a very active hunter and fishermen, and he also loved farm animals. Fred was very friendly to everyone, and he was well-liked by all who knew him. We are proud to have had the privilege of knowing Fred as long as we did. His absence is felt by all whose lives he touched, and we will continue to miss him in future years. FRED HUDAR 4 7 M ) t ' t CURTAIN GOING UP ■? . ■ ON THE PRODUCERS PRINCIPAL ROBERT SCOFIELD VICE PRINCIPAL 6 CHARLES BUCKEL I wish each and every senior the best of luck in the future and hope that they achieve every success possible. “No one of us is smarter than all of us . . I owe thanks to all that have contributed ideas for this school year. BOARD OF EDUCATION Standing: Mr. Jenne, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Brooks. Seated: Mr. Pitcher, Mrs. Felt, Mrs. McCullough. It was a joy to hear the kids’ accomplishments and here is how they all turned out. Chris DiTrinco is now the proud owner of Turner Inn, specializing in DiTrinco Daiquiri. I asked her how she was able to purchase the bar and she replied, “By investing every Friday and Saturday night.” Phillip Rutherford owns and operates a successful computer dating service with his wife RXD20. Their motto is, “It’s never too late. Let us find you a date.” Tina Drake was the first woman astronaut to step on Mars, but she’s confused with all the attention given to her. I agree with her reasoning as she says, “I’ve been in space all of my life.” Margo Hollister is an accomplished author having written the best-seller, “Valley Girl Jargon,” and said, “Well, you know, like, it’s just a book.” Bill Hollister has finally moved out of his house and now resides in Ogdensburg. I asked him why he moved and he said, “I just couldn’t live on my allowance of $250.00 a week!” Paul Langtry is the game warden of Chippewa Bay and is pushing for year around duck hunting, saying, “They kill cows year around.” Michelle Charlebois won $50,000 in the Kellogg Corn Flakes breakfast slogan contest. Her slogan was, “I’m a flake, you’re a flake, wouldn’t you like to be a flake, too?” Beverly Johnson inherited the Hammond Phone Company, and her only complaint is, “There are too many phone calls every day.” Scot and James Rupert are rock promoters and have an exclusive contract with the Hammond Stu- dent Council Music Service. 30 Jerry Folsom owns and operates a mirror outlet store in Canton, saying, “I just can’t see enough of myself.” Tina Wolfe is the editor of the Watertown Daily Times and told me, “I can voice my opinion now without anyone arguing with me.” Andrew Alberry has found a cure for baldness but insisted he didn’t do it. Stephen Bariteau is now a member of the Boston Philharmonic and has released a solo album, “Saturday Night Bariteau.” Bruce Grundmann and Gary Angel are Co-Owners of Angel-Mann Service Center. Their slogan is, “It may take us ten times to get it right, but we’re cheap.” Karen Youngs has replaced Mrs. Phillips as Mr. Scofield’s secretary and enjoys going to the office without being sent there. Sharon Barley and Marcia Youngs are nurses at the L.A. Trauma Center and are stand-bys for Suzanne Somers and Heather Locklear. Trina Closs and Amy Neuroth are the co-producers of the soap opera hit, “As Hammond Central Turns.” Amy was quoted as saying, “It’s about time someone wrote about the good things that hap- pen in the American school system.” 1 was surprised to hear that Cindy Boland took over Danny Burgess’s place as the weather lady at WWNY T.V. She said there is no need for Mr. Scofield to call in Hammond’s school closings because she knows when it is going to snow before he does. Carolyn Rogers is a door-to-door salesman selling stereos. She said, “If I can sell Walkmans in Ham- mond, I can sell stereos in California.” I was sorry that Senator Stoddard couldn’t attend the reunion, but Mr. Scofield explained the Senator was recovering from surgery to remove the brown from his nose, a disease he contracted in high school. I hope you are as impressed as I am with the class’s progress in life. I must sign off and prepare myself for first period Social Studies 11.1 have the Class of 1984’s kids in this class. BOYS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL We started our basketball practice on November 14, 1983 with some key players missing from our 19 and 4 season of 1982-83. These players were Dave McQueer, Tom Bowman, Ryan Schermerhorn, Dave Jenne, Scott McWharf and Don Bogart. We had three starting positions to fill, but we were lucky enough to have point guard, James Rupert, and center, Gandy Stoddard, back to anchor our team. Division III basketball again this year found the teams evenly matched as usual. If you relaxed or didn’t take a team seriously enough, you found yourself on the losing side of the game. The following players were on the team when we opened our season on December 13, 1983: Andy Alberry, Bob Boland, Ron Boland, Andy Bowden, Harold Cazziol, Doug Hadlock, Bill Hollister, James Rupert, Scot Rupert, Phil Rutherford, Murray Simons, Jason Smith, Gandy Stoddard, and Kelvin Youngs. We added Art Howie to the team on Feb. 3, 1984, from the JV squad. Team managers were Carl Ceresoli, Scot Sloan and Brent Gleason. Team statisticians were Diana Dunham, Jody Mann and Cheryl Stowe. At the end of the regular season, we had a record of 10 wins and 6 losses which tied us for third place with Heuvelton behind Edwards and Harrisville. We got a bye in the first round of sectional play-offs. The second round was played at Canton ATC and we played Chateaugay from Division II. We won this game 66-37. From here, we went to Potsdam State to play Hermon-DeKalb. We lost this game in overtime 57-59. This ended our season, and we did better than I thought we might at the beginning of the season. All Star selections made by the coaches of the Northern Athletic Conference Division III were Gandy Stod- dard (first team) and James Rupert (second team). Phil Rutherford was selected for the All-Northern Academic team. As I look back now, our biggest win was over Edwards who won the overall D Division Championship and went on to the State Tournament and in the first round defeated the 1982-83 State D Champions — Brookfield. I want to thank the team for its dedication, the school administration, parents and you, the fans, for your loyal support again this year. Coach Tom Chapman Boys’ Varsity Basketball 62 Gandy, where are you going? I got it! Get the lead out, Gandy! ON THE COURT ACTION 63 BOYS’ J.V. BASKETBALL Front Row: Brent Gleason, Carl Ceresoli, Scott Gleason. Second Row: Shaun Sloan, Doug Farley, A1 Rupert, Ed Arquitt, Jeff Viau. Third Row: Craig McLear, Travis Langtry, Dwayne McQueer, Art Howie, Gary Bass, Kent Hollister, Grant Prudhomne, Mr. Balzer. The Hammond Junior varsity basketball team finished its season with an 8-8 record. The team was led in scoring by Art Howie with a 20 point scoring average. Playing their last games on the junior varsity level were Doug Farley, Craig McLear, Gary Bass and Art Howie. 64 Way to sky, Kelvin! Second Row: Miss Votraw, Kelly Shoulette, Mandy Simons, Cheryl Stowe, Shelly Simons, Shelly Davidson, Bev Johnson — Not Pictured. This year the girls’ Varsity basketball team was a young squad, which progressed throughout the season. The girls worked hard and displayed much character. The Varsity squad is a very promising team for next season and one to be reckoned with! Miss Votraw That’s funny! It’s supposed to come down! We can score twice as much with two balls! GIRLS’ JV BASKETBALL Back Row: Laura Howie, Jackie Scofield, Lisa Marsaw, Darleen Murray, Teri Marsaw, Karrie Hollister, Rhonda Bertram, Miss Votraw. Front Row: Dorothy Wolfe, Carol Shoulette, Heather Scofield, Krista Youngs, Cathy Gleason, Laurie Youngs. The girls’ Junior Varsity team closed out its season by defeating Morristown 46-45 and reigns as Co-Champions for the 1983- 84 season. The girls were a super group to work with. Contributing to their success were their outstanding qualities of unselfishness and the ability to play as a team!! Congratulations! Miss Votraw Put your arms down! The war’s over! Porky, don’t run away from me now! 67 BASEBALL (no team picture available) Dave Mcqueer. Jimmy Boland, Phillip Rutherford, James Rupert, Scot Rupert, Paul Langtry, Andy Alberry, Harold Cazziol, Bobby Boland, Kelvin Youngs, A1 Rupert, Art Howie The Hammond Varsity baseball team ended its season with a 3-8 record.
