Text from Pages 1 - 90 of the 1980 volume:

This year the Spotlight shines on George Stewart, a man held in highest esteem by those who know him. George was an enlisted soldier in The Scots Guards Regiment, one of the Brigade of Guards which does duty at Buckingham Palace. He served with his regiment in the Middle East campaign. North Africa campaign, and the Salerno Beach Head landings in Italy where he was wounded and then discharged from the service. In 1950 George came to the United States and subsequently became a naturalized citizen, accept- ing his responsibility to this country just as dili- gently as he had served his homeland. As driver of bus 29 for eighteen years, his asso- ciates describe him as dedicated, cooperative and conscientious. He has served his country well. He has served his family well. He has served his community well. George, for all of this; for your avid interest and support of our sports program, especially soccer; for your loyalty, sensitivity and integrity, the Class of 1980 praises you and thanks you. We are extremely proud to dedicate our yearbook to you. George Stewart in the dress uniform of the Scots Guards. (1939) Foreword... Memories ... Isn’t that what a yearbook is all about? As you turn the pages of this book, we hope that you will remember those unforgettable good times, happy faces and unbelievable victories. This yearbook is a memoir of our school days at Hammond Central School. We know that with this edition of Spotlight, your memories of school will forever. Your friends say they’ll keep in touch, but you know they won't. Your teachers say come back and see them and you know you won't. Maybe someday it won’t matter, but right now it hurts a little. Bell Telephone Chief School Administrator May you have the maturity to accept your responsibilities, the pride to do your best and the courage to admit your mistakes. Albert Oatman 6 R f I ! Vice-Principal Every year Hammond Central produces a group of students we call Seniors. They leave Hammond Central and go out into college, work, armed forces, marriage, etc. They can never return to their “old” school the same way they left it; students they knew grow up, and teachers come and go. They meet and make new friends and join the adult world. They ” , know one of the lessons of life — that nothing is as permanent and lasting as they thought it was. Brooks, Mgrs., Coach: Charles Buckle. 72 Winter Highlights Epilogue As we approach our final days at H.C.S., we will recount our memories. We hope that with this edition of Spotlight you can relate to it too. All in all this yearbook recounts the past thirteen years of our lives. It is a part of us, and we are a part of it. With the help of H.C.S. we were able to grow. This is just the beginning for us, and a great beginning it was. Thank you H.C.S.!
