(Bhitor s Message Creating a yearbook is a difficult task which many people do not realize, but we of the Class of 1970 feel it was well worth it. We are proud of it. To us it is important because it brings to mind enjoyable memories. We also want it to be just as important to you, our classmates, teachers, and friends. After we graduate and leave Hammond Central we want to be remembered just as we will remember you, our friends and the memories we shared. To Mr. Aitcheson, our yearbook advisor, we owe many Thanks for his time and efforts. The Class of 1970 hopes that you, the reader, will enjoy our Spotlight 1970, now, and in years to come.

The preparation of a School Yearbook in these times is a most difficult task for the yearbook staff and the advisor. My congratulations to them for their many hours spent in a job well done. We are all proud of their efforts. It is rather difficult to express one’s true feelings during an age when so much time, newsprint, money and effort are being spent by so many different people to make us believe there is a “Generation Gap.” I do not believe there is a “Generation Gap”; I prefer to believe there is a lack of consideration, integrity, cooperation, and humility in society for which we of all ages are responsible. Helping to develop youth to become responsible adults is my job. I know it is not the easy and modern way to gain popularity to honor, respect, and practice some of the past American traditions. I still believe and have extreme confidence in the large majority of youth, adults and respect for the American Hag. Cordially,
