In years to come, we of the Class of 1970 will reflect on the most memorable times that we shared at Hammond Central. This yearbook is a reminiscense of the many unforgetable events of the past four years. We shall never forget our memories at H.C.S. We of the Class of 1970 proudly present the Spotlight 1970 to you, our fellow class- mates and friends. MARGARET SPIES In our years at Hammond, you have used every opportunity to know each stu- dent. Many came seeking advice. They left with assurance and warm friend- ship. In all situations, your decisions have had obvious good reasons and the justice behind them has always been clear. Your capable behing-the-scenes efforts as Student Council advisor and your never-ending help as a Mathmatics teacher have been greatly appreciated. 3fn Mm ANDY ARNOLD COLE 1953 - 1969 W ords cannot express the grief we felt at the loss of a friend and fel- low student. The shock and disbelief made a void that will not heal for many years. The students of Hammond Central School were drawn together, as all people are in times of tragedy, and in Andy’s memory, we should try to keep that feeling of unity. ortam HERSCHEL JAMES SCHINDLER 1917 - 1969 “Herschy” was a loyal friend to all of us. He put up with our tricks on basketball, band and other school trips. He never seemed to mind when we got too noisy. He remembered what it was to be a kid and tried to make it easier for us. He never yelled and even on the coldest mornings always had a good word for everybody. We will never forget this man and his kindness to us. (Bhitor s Message Creating a yearbook is a difficult task which many people do not realize, but we of the Class of 1970 feel it was well worth it. We are proud of it. To us it is important because it brings to mind enjoyable memories. We also want it to be just as important to you, our classmates, teachers, and friends. After we graduate and leave Hammond Central we want to be remembered just as we will remember you, our friends and the memories we shared. To Mr. Aitcheson, our yearbook advisor, we owe many Thanks for his time and efforts. The Class of 1970 hopes that you, the reader, will enjoy our Spotlight 1970, now, and in years to come. ADMINISTRATION The preparation of a School Yearbook in these times is a most difficult task for the yearbook staff and the advisor. My congratulations to them for their many hours spent in a job well done. We are all proud of their efforts. It is rather difficult to express one’s true feelings during an age when so much time, newsprint, money and effort are being spent by so many different people to make us believe there is a “Generation Gap.” I do not believe there is a “Generation Gap”; I prefer to believe there is a lack of consideration, integrity, cooperation, and humility in society for which we of all ages are responsible. Helping to develop youth to become responsible adults is my job. I know it is not the easy and modern way to gain popularity to honor, respect, and practice some of the past American traditions. I still believe and have extreme confidence in the large majority of youth, adults and respect for the American Hag. Cordially, I am happy to have this opportunity to extend my very best wishes to the Class of 1970 and to congratulate them on their achievements. As you leave Hammond Central, I hope each of you will take with you a good portion of what your teachers have attempted to impart to you these many years and that you find much happiness and success in the years to follow. V SENIORS dikes history The rest of the world had just settled down to a peaceful existence when the Class of '70 burst into the halls of Hammond Central School eager to start the journey through their high school years. No sooner had we arrived than we engaged in sports, music and all other activities open to us. Our first year in high school was quite different than the grades. We now had the opportunity to elect officers which were as follows: Mark McGregor, president; Leslie Slate, vice-president; Pat Langtry, secretary; Jim Walsh, treasurer; and Karen Gibson, class representative for Student Council. We chose Mrs. Joan Spies for our advisor. She willingly helped us with our class project which consisted of food sales and dances. The profits from these projects would be for our ultimate goal, our Senior Trip. With our Freshman year behind us, we started our sophomore year with enthusiasm and a little money. Once again we elected class officers who were; Lon Hollister, president; Judy Milsap, vice-president; Karen Gibson, secretary; Pat Langtry, treasurer; and Mark McGregor as Student Council representative. Mrs. Cameron took on the task of advising us. Through the year we sold magazines, held dances, food sales, and car washes to increase our treasury. Our Junior year brought more activities, such as dances, food sales, car washes, selling fruit- cakes and note paper. Our biggest event in this year was our Junior Prom. Our theme was Ti- juana Sunset . Although we didn’t make much of a profit, we had fun planning new ideas and putting them into use in our decorations. None of this would have been possible without our humble advisor, Mr. Aitcheson and our class officers: Pat Langtry, president; Mary Doyle, vice-president; Leslie Slate, secretary; George Forsythe, treasurer; with Alan Ayotte and Mark McGregor as Student Council representatives. September 1969, twenty-four proud Seniors entered room no. 162 with Mrs. Hannan as our ad- visor. Realizing the value of this year we took careful precautions in electing our officers. As our leaders we chose: Connie Tayler, president; Leslie Slate, vice-president; Pat Langtry, secretary; George Forsythe, treasurer; and Mark McGregor and Alan Ayotte as Student Council representa- tives. We held food sales, sold fruitcakes, stationery, sponsored dances and sold refreshments at the basketball games. These activities and the yearbook have all helped to earn enough money for our Senior Trip. We plan to go to Washington D. C. , which has been our goal since we were Freshmen. Throughout our four years the students, parents, and teachers have made our trip possible by supporting all of our activities. We wish to thank everyone who helped make our high school days memorable ones. enter (Officers G. Forsythe (Treasurer), Mrs. Hannan (Advisor), C. Tayler (President), L. Slate (Vice-President), P.
