EDITOR’S MESSAGE Now that our Senior year is coming to a close, we feel the need to remember all of our good times at Hammond Central School. We hope that our friendships and school experiences of the past will be remem- bered by one and all each time we look at the 1966 Spotlight with all of its wonderful memories, for it is our turn, as Seniors, to leave our friends and go our separate ways, passing on our long-awaited hopes and dreams to next year's class. Our four years of hard work have shown us the many ways we have trialed and errored, succeeded and failed in all of our undertakings. The satisfaction of a job well done on the Spotlight means more than the end of our high school career. Our future is ahead of us, challenging: our past, behind us, cherished. I 7km U ondtrful tfws In 1962, energetic and enthusiastic students entered into the ninth grade. This was the first of Those Wonderful Years. It was the be- ginning of four years of learning, working, and playing. Our class offi- cers elect were: President - Trudy McMechan, Vice-President - Wanda Youngs, Secretary - Larry Gascon, and Treasurer - Debby McLear. During the year, we raised money by sponsoring dances and holding a food sale and card party. Our advisor was Mrs. Eustis. In our Sophomore year, we elected Phil Hanson - President, Larry Gascon - Vice-President, Trudy McMechan - Secretary, and Wanda Youngs - Treasurer. Our advisor was Mr. Florin. We sponsored dances, sold magazines, and held a talent show. Our Junior year was very exciting . . . our biggest project being the JUNIOR PROM. Our profits were small but seeing the finisnea pro- duct . . . Moonlight and Roses . . . was enough reward. Our class ad- visor was again Mr. Florin and our officers were: President - Wanda Youngs, Vice-President - Bobby Hunter, Secretary - Debby McLear, and Treasurer - Vicky Emrich. During the year we held car washes, dances, sold H.C.S. jackets and held an amateur show. At last! We were Seniors and entering our last wonderful year. Our class officers were: President - Debby McLear, Vice-President - Vicky Emrich, Secretary - Carol Stalker, and Treasurer - Phil Hanson. Our projects to raise money for our long awaited Senior Trip included dances, selling stationery and publishing the 1966 Spotlight. Each day the sun rises and the day after graduation will be no dif- ferent. The sun will rise again and we will rise with it for graduation is not the end but the beginning of a challenging, often bewildering fu- ture. ) I fl I : 1 II.1I ' PHI Ill ii f III mmmm : ' :: ; TABLE OF CONTENTS PAGE 57 ADVERTISEMENTS i PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE May I congratulate you upon another successful year at Hammond Central School. DEDICATION Mother Nature has been bountiful to the Class of 1966. She has given us the sun to light our days, the stars to guide us at night, and she has given us two wonderful parents. With patience, understanding and devo- tion, you, our parents, have guided our footsteps to the paths of the fu- ture. Today, our star is rising to a bright future in a noble country. Without you, where would we be? It was our fathers who went when their country called to meet the challenge of Hitler and his cohorts so that their children might grow in a country, free from want and fear. Later, these same men became farmers, laborers and citizens of this community. Through their devotion, they have helped make America a safeguard for democracy. Perhaps our mothers have been among the most influential forces in our lives. Their countless tasks, too numerous to name, have been appreciated. If life has been good to us, they have helped make it so. To our parents, we, the Seniors, owe a debt of gratitude. Whatever we become we owe to you, for you have set the patterns and goals we will try to obtain in life. In this small way, we are attempting to say Thank you. You have helped make our high school years These Wonderful Years” and it is with great pride and honor that the Class of 1966 dedicates this issue of the Spotlight to you. 28 ANNOUNCERS SENIOR PLAY 1965 CO to FIRST ROW: C.
