GREETING In preparing this, the fifth catalogue of Hammond High School, we are attempting to again bring before the young people of the community surrounding Ham- mond the advantages offered by the school and briefly a description of the work covered. The small high school labors under disadvantages in attempting many courses but we believe that we are offering as practical courses for students preparing for teaching, for business and for college as any small high school. It is the aim, too, of every teacher to emphasize the importance of morals and ethics, of clean play, and correct methods of study so that the students may not have a one-sided development. No institution can be successful without the co- operation and help of those whom it attempts to serve. The advice of parents and people of the community is always appreciated. Conferences between teachers and parents are often conducive of many good results for the school. We thank you for your support of the school and ask you to continue your interest.

LOCATION Hammond is one of the most beautiful villages of northern New York. Situated only three miles from Chippewa Bay of the St. Lawrence River, in easy com- munication by rail with all important nearby cities, with climate healthful and scenery unsurpassed, few villages possess greater natural advantages. Its inhabitants are keenly alive to the best interests of the school and liberally provide every appliance needed in modern education. It is believed that no place can offer greater inducements to those looking for a school in which to educate their children. EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES The school has a library consisting of about 700 volumes which have been selected with special reference to the needs of the pupils in every branch of the school work. Additions are made from time to time as the need arises. The reference shelves, upon which are found encyclopedias, dictionaries, and histories are free- ly accessible to students at all times. The laboratory is equipped with apparatus for illustrating the principles of Biology, Physics, and Chem- istry. Chemistry and Physics are given alternate years. Instruction in vocal music is afforded in each grade. Classes are formed for the students who wish such in- struction. This is of especial benefit to those students who plan to enter training class or normal after gradu- ation from high school.. ATHLETICS The school is fortunate in having the use of a large campus with plenty of playground room and a good baseball diamond. The school also has the use of the Community House for basket ball. Thus it is possible to have both baseball and basket ball and in each the students take a live interest.. Hammond High School is a member of the St. Law- rence Valley Basketball League, composed of the teams of seven of the nearby high schools. Under the able coaching of Rev. Campbell of the Presbyterian church, the team has succeeded in defeating several of the schools of larger enrollment. The base ball team also ranks well among the teams of the smaller high schools of the county.
