In 1975 the determination and dedication of the squad pro- duced the team’s finest record ever, 12-1-1. Awareness of soccer spread through the school as hundreds of fans traveled to Masco to watch the title game. A first was a- chieved in the school ' s soccer program as the General ' s par- ticipated in the state tourna- ment. With a little luck, the team could have reached the pinnacle of success. FIELD HOCKEY FOOTBALL The Generals ' season was one of inconsistency from the very start. In the opening game against Dover- Sherborn, the Generals scored the winning touchdown with just 20 seconds left to play. In sharp contrast to that thriller was the 41-0 disappointment at the hands of Newburyport. The best offensive effort of the season came against Triton with four touchdown passes, 180 yards passing and 170 yards rushing. A big upset was the 14-6 triumph over heavily favored Pentucket in front of their home fans. Rain continually dampened the field but both in victory and defeat the fan ' s enthusiam never dimmed. BASKETBALL Opening their season with a loss to their nemesis, powerful North Andover, did not deter the talented Generals from having one of their best seasons in years. Winning the Montpelier Christmas Tournament, and the Cape Ann Eastern Division Championship paved the way to a berth in the annual Tech Tourney. The season was highlighted by the Generals ' first 100 point game and gave Mr. Kinney the 300th victory of his coaching career. ' ‱‱1 J HOC KEY TENNIS SOFTBALL A 9r GOLF I BOYS’ TRACK 52 The 1975 track team had a very successful season by win- ning the Cape Ann League Relays and placing second in the Cape Ann League Meet. They beat a tough Masco team, but lost to a very strong team from Lynnfield. The overall H-W track season record was eight wins and only one loss. Accepted student manuscripts and drawings are pre- pared by the staff for print in the yearly Spring issue. In addition to the main production of the magazine, the staff also holds book fairs and bake sales to raise money for printing material since SYMPOSIUM is entirely self supporting. 68 ”Sound-Off conveys the news and opinions of the H-W students to the community and the Regional, through feature stories, cartoons, and editorials. As the Regional ' s only news medium, Sound-Off” tries to keep everyone in- terested and informed on school activities. Club members are constantly polling and interviewing, writing and editing and rushing to meet deadlines. YEARBOOK Spirit- -School Spirit- -Class Spirit-- Year- book Spirit. This year ' s staff strived to cap- ture the essence of the times. We think this written and visual interpretation reflects the spirit of the student body of ' 76. STUDENT GOVERNMENT Representatives of the student body meet in open fo- rum with the principal, Dr. Zimmerman, to present their views on pertinent issues. Through this process, educational improvement is brought about while involving the students in the democratic process. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society is an organization that is dedicated to service to the school and the community. Members serve as tutors to students in need of academic help, guides on parents night, and as ushers at graduation. A highlight of the year was the NHS sponsored Talent Show. In addition to providing an en tertaining evening, the money raised was used to sponsor a Korean foster child. 73 ECO-ACTION Learning about and improving our environment are the aims of this club. We began a recycling program in Hamilton and now we are recycling paper here at the high school. Harvest Festival, held at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary educates the public about recycling. There, too, the club sells craft items made of recycled paper, cans, yarn, bottles, wax, and string. Camping and field trips around the North Shore area com- pleted a year of learning and enjoyment. u u. 0 : 74 The math team, during the last two years, has earned the titles of Division Champion, State Champion and runner-up in the New England Invitational Math Tournament. This year another great season was achieved. In October, the team set an all-time scoring record of 172 points for that month. Lead by an exceptional group of seniors, the team, with its talented underclassmen, has its best season ever. cO Wr f 00f ' GSUS JOkffj- .hMil C C0Ot Ail There ' s a bomb school i I t CJ nuor V ' ernni ' uOi.( forlojr ornilton-OJenKum fteq OA«Li Idm ' Ss lo n ‱■ T5 t Students oo adu. ts ’onserod by ' k e H-cu nor Soc ei: . Though the time be short or long, the bonds of love have grown quite strong Creating in our hearts a home A place our memories can freely roam. Like the last song on the readio. Like that last peaceful iriiream. Like the lingering scent of a weee Like the last song on the radio. Like that last peaceful dream. Like the lingering scent of a sweet perfume All reminders of things that have been For the love, the joys, the fight, the play Are treasures that shall never fade away. Though distance and years may pull us apart Well always be together in the memories Of our hearts. So, goodbye for now to you my friends.
