OM7' SCHOOL BOARD Qt wi Y f- av V , 3 ! L.. u ' r Left I0 rigbf: Lewis Eakin, Clarence Forshey, Mrs. A. M. Sher- man, Frank Peters, L. D. Dowler, D. Strausbaugh. Not shown: Raymond Hann. For the untiring efforts of the Board of Education, the members of the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty are greatly indebted. New members who took office in January are Mr. Clarence Wiseman and Mr. Cyrus Donahue. PARENT-TEACHERS ASSOCIATION is-W V it-nvnhf' Attree McClish, President The Parent-Teachers Association has been very active dur- ing our school days at Hamilton. Their conscientious efforts to make our school one of the best are indeed appreciated. Page Sezfefz BOOSTERS ATHLETKICLUB John Lewis, PI'6J'flf9lIf The Boosters' Athletic Club was organized to encourage athletics. Each year they have had a Bingo-Euchre party and other money-raising projects. Their interest in athletics is real. Last year during the football season they assisted on the field in handling the crowd. Their help with parking was also appreciated. BAND BGOSTERS CLUB Mrs. Lewis Eakin, Prericievzt The Band Boosters' Club was formed in 1949 and have as their aim the encouragement of the Music Department in the high school. This group took charge of the concession stands at the football games . and raised enough money to buy uniforms. It is their further aim to buy expensive equipment for the band which the ordinary student does not buy. Without doubt such additions will aid Hamilton Township High School in having an outstanding band. Page Eigbl Um czcafg.. VVORLEY BAUGHMAN A.B. Olyio Lf latin Mathematics Physical Ed. jr. Round and Square dancing followed the initiation service, in which group singing was led by George Campbell. It is felt that when they are given proper recognition they will be of great help in developing the ideals of their clubs-to create, maintain, and extend throughout our homes, schools, and community high standards of Christian character. The social calendar included swimming meets and parties at the Y park. The Hi-Y gave 820.00 to the Community Chest and bought basketball jerseys for the boys. Movies were shown at noon for the entire school which helped defray the expenses involved. The Clubs are grateful for the work of Mr. Glaze Thompson of the Y.M.C.A. and Mr. George Campbell who led a song service for the entire school. The Club meets approximately once a month for business and social purposes. The activities are somewhat limited due to funds and Latin facilities. The Spanish Department, under the direction of Mr. McMichael, has advanced greatly. Besides having new books and a wire recorder, the Spanish students have learned regional dances and customs. On Nov. 29, the group demonstrated the Samba, Tango, Rhumba and the Raspa in a colorful, entertaining program. FOOTBALL STORY OF 1949-50 HAMILTON 8 HAMILTON O HAMILTON 2 HAMILTON 12 GAHANNA 19 HILLIARDS 21 MIFFLIN 40 REYNOLDSBURG 18 Although Hamiltorfs football season was rather disappointing in that there were no games won, the season could not be termed unsuccessful. The boys, all of them, played their hearts out for their Alma Mater. Many beautiful passes were thrown and many received that seemed to be almost winners for our boys. Those long to be remem- bered were seen at the Groveport, Gahanna and Reynoldsburg games. Good sportsmanship was evident in all the games. Injuries were costly to the team, especially in the Hilliards game when Gail Manning, Frank Trott and Duane Stevens were out of the game after being hurt. In the Mifflin game Frank Trott received a slight brain concussion and was treated at Mt. Carmel Hospital. The Groveport game saw Ray Beard injured. At the Dad's Night game, with Reynoldsburg, Duane Stevens suf- fered a split tongue. One of the games that showed the spirit of our boys was the homecoming game with Dublin, which ended in a 7-7 tie. The boys kept on fighting every minute of the game and though we neither won nor lost, we considered it a moral victory for Hamilton. They were Carol Hoon, Carolyn Rollins and Elaine Eisnaugle. The old ones were Eloise Wyatt, loan Hoon and Wanda Bond. There was more twirling this year and quite a few new ideas were used such as The Big Eagle, the Big Eagle Pass in front and back. At the football home- coming they worked out a neat dance step. Eloise, the head majorette, was the Senior attendant in the Home- coming Court so there were tryouts held and joan Hoon was chosen to take the head majorettes place. Nancy Welch filled loans place. l E 1.. l l 1 THE MARCHING BAND Hamilton's marching band stepped out thirty-five strong at the first foot- ball game of the season, with Eloise Wyatt, the head majorette, in the lead, and the five other majorettes, joan Hoon, Carol Hoon, Wanda Bond, Carolyn Rol- lins and Elaine Eisnaugle, close behind. The band was invited to Mifflin September 30 to play for the third game of the season. They accepted willingly and the Old Oalceri Bucket was formed while the song was being played. Hamilton played their victory song and formed the letter H. Both bands played the Star Spangled Banner. During the past fifty years atomic energy, radio, the airplane, disease conquests, new materials, longer years of life, and a realization that there are other universes than our own are but a few of the developments that have been realized. From the early telephone and Marconi wireless we have the great electrical communications that permit us in Ohio to see a Rose Bowl game that has been played in California. But we take these things for granted because they have been our inheritance from those who sacrificed in the past. Two great wars have been fought during this half century and they have made us conscious of the whole world in which we live. No longer can Americans afford a splendid isolationg rather, our nation and its sons and daughters must enter courageously into world events that call for our leadership. This chal- lenge makes us humble in the light of the accom- plishments of the great people of the past. The Class of 1950 is deeply indebted to those who have made our world a happy place in which to live. We could never forget our parents and their sacrifices. Withotlt their help we would never know the happy day of graduation. The Class of 1950 feels indebted to all who make it possible to publish this annual. We would like to thank all the advertisers for their help and the faculty members who gave of their time. In painting the past we are ever conscious of the years ahead and the pictures that we will paint in the future. May they ever reflect the high ideals of our Alma Mater. Page Sixty-one Om 664144 Wdetcvzy . . On the first day of school, September 2, 1946, one hundred and three boys and girls entered the front door of Hamilton High School for the first time as Freshmen. We all thought that we were really big shots then. The first few weeks of school were spent trying to get used to the new rulings that were expected of us as Freshmen. We were all looking toward the pleasant and happy times we would have in high school. We filled three home rooms under the direction of Mr. Lynch, Mr. Black, and Mrs. Swerlein. Many boys went out for sports, some making the Reserve Team. Class elections were held and the officers were: President, William Kramer, Vice-President, Lois Dowler, Secretary and Treasurer, Ralph Lockett, Student Council, Nancy Lytle. Eloise Wyatt represented us in the Queen's Court, and also Nancy Overstreet had the honor of being Head Majorette that year. We came back in September of 19-47 as Sophomores and with a little wiser look on our faces as we peered down upon the new Freshmen. But of course, we told them some of the tricks we had played and some ideas on how to hook classes. This year the class was small and only filled two home rooms, with Advisors Mrs. Belcher and Mr. Hope. Then elections got underway with President, Doyle Scarberry, and Student Council Representative, Nancy Lytle. Four girls from our class that year were chosen as Reserve Cheerleaders. They were Janet Johnston, Eloise Wyatt. Nancy Lytle and Nancy Overstreet. In the Queen's Court for Football we nominated Mary Lou Burchfield and for Basketball, Ruth Holden. In Basketball we won the class tournaments. Our class made a great contribution and our boys ventured into the Varsity Team. In our Junior year the class numbered eighty-three students. The school was more aware of us, for we were active members in many activities of the school such as G.A.A., Hi-Y, Tri-Hi-Y, Future Teachers, Mixed Chorus, Band, Orchestra, and Science Club. We had an eventful year under the supervision of Mrs. Swerlein and Mrs. Smith. We had been looking forward to the Junior-Senior Banquet ever since we had entered high school. The Class Play, which was A Date With Judy , under the direction of Mrs. Thomas, was a responsibility we loved. This year mem- bers of our class were selected for the Honor Society. The Reserve Cheerleaders, of the Sophomore year, had now moved up to Varsity, and the boys were playing Varsity ball in all sports. For the Queen's Court we nominated Joan Hoon and Hilda Wears to represent us in Football, Pauline Reed and Nancy Overstreet in Basketball. Also this year Eloise Wyatt took over the position of Head Majorette. Ralph Osborne, as President, led the class through this year with Lois Dowler as Vice President, Raymond Beard as Secretary, Allen Fry as Treasurer, Attree McClish, Wanda Canny and Don Leddy on the Student Council. Seniors-at last! We were all so happy to be enrolled as Seniors but now as graduation time draws near we are all wondering if we won't miss the Old Alma Mater. Officers for our biggest year were: President, Robert Slark, Vice President, Gail Manning, Secretary, Ruth Holden, Treasurer, Allen Fry, Student Council, Bob Darst, Don Smith, Nelson Houck, and Nancy Lytle. This year our class numbered seventy students. A large number was added to the Honor Society from our class again this year. All totaling eighteen, they are as follows: Laura Mae Creech, Mary Bentley, Ruth Holden, Jean Kramer, Nancy Overstreet, Eloise Wyatt, Attree McClish, Nancy Lytle, Joan Rawlins, Mary Lou Burchfield, Lois Dowler, Norma Karshner, Bob Slark, Marilyn Athey, Jane Mullen, Ray Beard, Allen Fry, and Nelson Houck. Then we were faced with the problem of producing an annual, and with Mrs. Cope we started first by getting Advertisements. Next we had stories to get, have the pictures taken, and many other things before we were ready to go to press, February 1. This year we were led by Mrs. Belcher as our Home Room Advisor. Our Football Queen was Hilda Wears, with Eloise Wyatt serving in her Court, and for Basketball we selected Janet Johnston as Queen with Nancy Over- street serving in her Court. Our Senior Class Play was Mystery in the Library , presented on May 5, 1950, under the direction of Mr. McMichael. Seniors who gained noteworthy positions were Paul Beggrow, President of Hi-Y, Pauline Reed, President of Tri-Hi-Y, Ruth Holden, Honor Society Officer, Lois Dowler, President of G.A.A., Don O'Harra, President of Photography Club, Allen Fry, President of Science Club, Ray Beard, President of Fu- ture Teachers Club, Nancy Lytle, Co-Chairman of Student Council, Nelson Houck, Co-Chairman of Student Coun- cil, Ruth Holden, School Paper Editor, and Don Smith, Editor of the Annual. We all enjoyed our Junior-Senior Ban- quet given to us by the Juniors on May 11, 1950. And so graduation ends our happy high school days with Hamilton High School on May 25, 1950. I johnny Page Sixty-luo CLASS PROPHECY January 1, 1960 Dear Classmates of 1950: While flying over Dallas, Texas, to my amazement I realized that I was running low on gas. I tried to land as carefully as I could and to my delight saw the perfect landing on a farm. As I descended from the plane a wom- an came from the farm house and who should it be but our former Wafzda Canny. We were so excited, and, of course, fell into conversations so fast that we scarcely realized that ten years had rolled away since we had seen each other. What a noise-a car just breezed along the road. Who could it be? It was none other than Ray Beard in his new Super 20 Cadillac. It seems that he had become a very successful salesman and he interviewed the ranch owners about every january. How delightful it was on the beautiful ranch of Wanda's. Then along came the United States Postal truck and from it emerged Paul jarzfir. who had a letter from Ioan Rawlinr loner and jane Mullen loner. It seems that they had married the Jones boys. Their letter told so many interesting things. They were manufacturers of popcorn-in fact the largest in the world. Dear Old Hamilton certainly gave them an inspiration. In the letter was mentioned the fact that joan and jane were theatre enthusiasts. They recently had gone to the Golden Square, owned by Bob Darrt. One of the features that amazed them very much was a skating act by Marilyn Albey. They also mentioned the breath-taking acrobatic act by Loir Dozeler, Mary Bentley and Wfanda Bnrrell, As they were leaving the theatre, they said they heard the newsboys yelling: Extra, Extra, Read all about it! Pazrl Beggrouf just elected Governor of New York. That boy surely gets around. Their letter ended by saying they were sending a carton of Mulraw pop- corn. We went into town for a while and at the grocery store owned by Dnane Sfezrenr we got more information about the Class of 1950, and Hamilton High School. It seems that the United States Government extended the Lockbourne Field and housed thousands of people in the area that used to be surrounding our high school. Ham- ilton High School is now located on High Street, and may soon be considered in Columbus. Governor Herb Lowery and his Manager, jimmy Iobnron. did a lot toward bringing Government construction to Ohio. Then we went home and prepared for the dance. Who was at the hotel? A lot of her new friends but among the guests were jean Kramer and Mary Lon Bnrrbfield who were on their way to South America. It seems they wished they had taken McMichael's Spanish at Hamilton and were now trying to make up for lost time. They told us that Pauline Reed is now married and living in California. We had a slumber party that night and we invited Jean and Mary Lou, which reminded us of that slumber party when we were Seniors. We exchanged news and it seems that the Crorby sisters are signing with Harry Hall'r band. It consists of Harry Sebntte, Don 0'Harra. Iobn Harley. janzer Greenlee and Edrel larner. I also told them about Atzree McClirb who is now playing for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Hanford Cortlozo has now signed a four-year contract with the New York Yankees. Bob Cartt. Allen Fry and Bob Green have entered their hot rods in a junk yard derby. I don't remember who mentioned it but it seems that Norma Anderron. Betty Everettr and Vivian Geedey have an exclusive ladies' shop on the corner where the Union used to be. Their advertisement that was sent to Wanda featured Eloire Wfyatt, Nancy Lytle, Nancy Overrtreet and janet fobnrton, These former cheerleaders are now signed up with a professional league and they can be seen training new recruits for the cheerleading and majorette work. The last I heard they were going to Europe to cheer for the United States Olympic team in which Fred Tope is a member. Of course you heard that Ralpb Lockeit. Don Srnitb and Bill Troil have now graduated from Ohio University, where they played basketball for their alma mater. They are now rival coaches in the various high schools in Ohio. Rmb McCarly. Vifioria Moore and Dorotby Obetz are secretaries in the Court House in Columbus. It seems they knew how to be quiet when necessary and impressed the judge, Hanrel Rboder. Melzfin Lozier is now doing sculpturing in Paris. On his way over he saw the great shipbuilder Duane Vazzgbn, Duane has made a contract with Melvin to construct a memorial to the Class of 1950 on the site of the former building that we knew as our high school. It will be made of marble. Bernard Cordell is now in Hollywood and is creating hair styles for Hollywood's newest actresses, Rmb Holden and joan Hoon. He also helped Hilda Wearr when she was Queen for the Tournament of Roses. Laura Mae Creetb is now head of a travel bureau out of San Francisco. She had been a Primary teacher but things got too dull. Don Leddy, Kenny Rereberry. and Gene Sawyer are now in the Armed Forces. And what do we hear about Doyle Sea-rberry? He is now a candy manufacturer. He got his inspiration the night of the Groveport game. Dean Stortr is seen on television in the great wrestling matches. fC011ti72I1ed on Page 652 Page Sixty-tbree Elma 7066! LAST YVILL AND TESTAMENT. We. the Senior Class of 1950.
