Highjumping is one of Kim Marks' many talents. Kim pulled in quite a few points for the Royals at the conference meet. , When a team is young and really just starting out, one really cannot expect too much from it so far as its win-loss colunms are concemed. Although a sort of experimental at- tempt was made at forming a girls' team last year, it was pretty much a flop. 'Ihere were various problems such as getting a full-time coach and enough girls out for the team. 'I'his year, however, Miss janet Wade took over the position of coach and even worked out with the girls at times. Also, the number of girls out for the team almost doubled. Even though the number of girls out doubled, not a one was a senior. So, next year's team, with much retuming experience, should be able to pocket a few more blue ribbons. Team Members Melinda Golf, Mindy Burkhart and Gail Cox use a jacket in an effort to keep warm. Moving ahead in the 880 and heading for the fin- ish is junior Sandy Quinn.

Because of the number of girls sports this year, Mr. john Rusell undertook the job of coaching the girls' basketball team. Mr. Russell is not a member of the staff here at Southeastem, but he worked with the girls regularly on a vol- untary basis. - There were, perhaps, some factors not on the beneficial side of the girls basketball team. For instance, in order to practice the girls had to go to Fishers Elementary. There was also a lack of support from fans-maybe because the coach couldn't be here to put in that extra word for the girls. Although the girls didn't have the best of seasons, they did see Fellow Team Member joyce Wampler, their leading scorer, obtain the honor of being named to the All Conference: Team. n Prepanng to pass the ball off Kim Marks, a ju- Going over some of the plans with the team mor looks for another open Royal. during a timeout is Coach john Russell who works with the girls on a voluntary basis.
