They haven't done quite that, but they have made a name for themselves that will be remembered for many a year to come. Taking advantage of the fact that they were the largest class in high school, they elected their freshman candidate -- the Homecoming Queen--a feat never before or since equalled by any class. Their sophomore year marked the construction of the I-I on Downing Mountain which is now traditional of freshman initiation. Also, they began the year under the new administration. The Class of '64 really came into its own in its junior year. The football team, made up mostly of juniors, fought its way to a dark horse conference co-championship with Loyola of Missoula. The basketball team, headed by juniors, ended the season by placing second in the divisional tourney. The junior class showed its academic prowess with two of its members receiving letters of commendation for their high scores on the NMSQT. The junior year was climaxed by a success- ful junior Prom that was accorded to be the best some had ever seen. But the Class of '64 didn't stop there. During the summer, the Boys' State delegates met at Dillon as one of the most acijve delegations which helped elect Pat Collins the Secretary of State. Girls' Staters, too, received a more thorough knowledge of our government from their sessions at MSC. Working as a page in the United States House of Representatives, Michael Dowling spent the summer months in Washington, D. C. learning the procedures of our national government. In '63, the football team was led to its championship in the new Western Montana Class A conference. After this, a Senior Barn Dance was staged that will probably never see an equal. The Class of '64 has been the object of a social experiment this year in releasing the seniors from study halls. Under the leadership of the senior students, the school organizations have progressed with greater efficiency and speed. With the success achieved in the past to guide us in the future, we are assured of outstanding citizenship in tomorrow's ever changing world. 8 x ,. THE STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council became a more powerful organization this year by controlling the scheduling of events of the assemblies, freshmen initiation, a clothing drive, and the sale of movie discount tickets. In a quest for funds to meet its growing expenses the council proposed an amendment to its constitution which would tax all the school organizations on their profit-making activities. However, the MH, tax issue was rejected by a student body vote. A student advisory board, represented by every school organization, was set up to give clubs a clearer voice in student affairs . 44 H-CLUB GIRLS' CLUB CABINET J., z iff' 45 CABINET MEMBERS: FRONT ROW, Sue Bell, Treasurer, jane Peterson, Secretary, Diane Nousanen, President, Sheryl jones, Vice-President, janet Milligan. The energetic FI-lA'ers took up the project of supporting two Korean orphans. With this intent, style shows with a variety of themes were staged, and car washes were organized. Mrs. Nason literally ran her FHA girls ragged in preparing dinners and other projects to support their two or- phans. The homemakers managed to have the district FHA Convention at Hamilton, another highlight of the year. jj '33 50 D.E.C.A. A Hamilton chapter of the Distributive Education Clubs of America was established this year under the sponsorship of Mr. Donald Ferguson. The organization is composed of members of the distributive education class which requires on-the- job train- ing in retail establishments. The new group has sponsored Mm several money raising affairs, in its role as a prospective leader at HI-IS. The DECA Club has purchased a large display case for exhibiting the merchandise of many local stores. With good depth provided by sophomores and freshmen this looks like a good year for the group. Mr. Wahl, its sponsor, has been working hard with the mem- bers and has arranged for a meet here at HHS. More meets and a larger membership point to a much improved speech group. This year's officers are S. Hefty, Presidentg andj. Biles, Secretary- Treasurer. PEECH CLUB V TH ESPIANS A new spotlight for drama was purchased this year by the Thespians. It has been a great addition to the plays. Their fine work on the plays and oper- etta have helped produce smashing successes at every turn. Next thing we know they'll be writing their own plays! This year's leaders are: B. Kennedy, Presidentg R. Greenup, Vice-Presidentg and S. Case, Secretary-Treasurer. GIRLS ATHLETIC ASS'N. The Girls Athletic Association, newly formed organization for girls' sports, is under the guidance of Miss Erickson, girls' physical education instructor. It provides our more ambitious girls with organized team sports and physical improvement activities. This year's officers include: H. Ahlgren, President, I. Hitchcott, Vice-President, L. Kaul, Secretary, and C. Macho, Treasurer. FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA Future Teachers of America which was organized last year in HHS, is still a young group. This group helps students understand te aching careers. To let the students get a closer look at college, they spon- sor an annual Career Day, in which college students report, This year's officers are D. Bush, Presi- dent, K. Kohl, Vice-President, and Mary Andersen, Secretary. 53 LIBRARY A D VISUAL AIDS Guided by Mrs. Ellen Crupper, the librarians have had a particularly active year, having moved their facilities into the larger capacities of the combined library-study hall. Those who worked in the Audio- Visual Aids department at HHS found headquarters for their group in the A. V. room of the library. These boys who worked with Mr. Ferguson operated the sound and projection equipment for the school. 1 X ,.g.,-g. .m-vw V-L'f.5-,eax,u-gigs af--mf-fe..-J we1-frffxy-an'fiivigga qfygQ.g4w-5y+1wV, ' , ,,f -, ,' 'f -, 5'fI0'fL'n Efffiki-srqlfii?VFW'-'Vi'iy'! WESTERN CLASS A CHAMPIONS In their first ye ar in the new Western Division of Class A football, the fighting Broncs walked away with the crown. The Broncs, sparked by the leadership of the eight fine Seniors on the squad, ran and tackled their way to an 8-O- 1 season. This was the first undefeated season for the Broncs in 15 years. This made two foot- ball titles in a row for the gridiron men, who tied for the Southwestern Division football crown last year. The Broncs were scored on in only 4 games for a total of 32 points while the high flying Broncs racked up 261 counters. With almost the same team back next year we can look forward to yet another championship. 57 FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: I. Shea, M. Dowling, Coach McDonald. SECOND ROW: D. MCI-Iatton, B. Spannuth, D. The style show has been a yearly event and has been a main source of money for the Girls' Club to finance a delegate to Girls' State.
