This is a familiar sound throughout the day at the Vocational Agriculture building. Hamilton High School now has a licensed amateur short-wave radio station with the license issued in the name of the Hamilton High School Radio Club. The station call-letters are WSOFP. It has a power ot 35 watts and is equipped with directional antenna and other modern gadgets. The boys, under the leadership ot Superintendent V. M. Santy, who is an ardent fan himself with his own amateur station, make their own equipment and learn the fundamentals ot radio in the shop connected with the station. They use a record player with a set ot instructional records tor learning the Continental code. The station was licensed in February of this year. Since that time, the club members have made contact with a large number oi stations, both in the United States and in foreign countries. The states most frequently worked in our own country are those located in the New England and the Western sections. Foreign countries contacted include Australia, Guam, Hawaii, New Zealand, Scotland, England, Iapan, Okinawa, Korea, Canada, Alaska, and several ships at sea. As tar as is known, this is the only high school amateur radio station in the state. In time, it is hoped that it may be included as an accredited course in the school curriculum. Members of the club at present are Bob Chesley, president, Roy Fry, Marshall Fufler, Carl Harris, Wilburn Iordan, Leman Lucas, Edward Merritt, Edgar Sparks, Cecil Kelly, VV. O. McCollum, Dennis Host, Nelson Frost, and Roger Watkins. 1947-1948 BULLDOGS First Row: L to R: Iohnny Pierson and Bob Chesley, Managers. Second Row: B. P. The 1947 season started with a bang-scoring lopsided victories over Lometa, 33-U, and Hico, 50-0, only to have their roar silenced by the Comanche lndians 6-O. Their losses were at the hands of good teams: Coleman 26-6, Gatesville l2-6, Eastland 26-O and Dublin 20-O. They worked in three more victories over DeLeon 48-O, Gorman 18-O, and Clifton 12-6. All were hard fought games and everyone is proud of the team-Win, lose, or draw. Especially are we proud of the captains who made the all-district team, Billy Havens at guard and W. O. McCollum at a back field post. Several of our team made the second all-district team. They Were: Curtis Baker, tackle, lack Fulcher, end, and Gus Rost at guard. A number of the boys acted as captains during the year. At the end of the season, Billy Havens and W. O. McCollum were elected as Co-captains of the squad. GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM First row: Winnie Pearl Seipert, Mattie Io Lawson, Gloria Gromatzky, loyce Chambless, Odella Rosentreter, lda Rabbe, Helen Gipson. SCORE TIED - FOURTH QUARTER - FOUR MINUTES TO GO Touchdowns frequently occur late in the fourth quarter with the score tied, Fourth down and a few minutes left in the game ---- The thought which is involved is char- acteristic of The American people and the system of free enterprise. Success in business rarely occurs in the forenoon but rather in the afternoon of life. The first quarters afford one an opportunity to acquire a bit of know- ledge and in the latter quarters one can apply the knowledge acquired to the problem at hand. Service institutions, such as ours, are eager to assist business, large and small, in its effort to grow, for thus we score-together.
