Theodore Maione, Leigh Keyser, and Theodore Johnson, are trumpeters, and Gloria Gardiner,Diane Love, and Alice Pooler play violin, plano, and drums respectively At every regular assembly the orchestra has played the marches, and the three trumpeters have led the singlng of' the Star Spangled Banner. . Yes, another operetta ls in progress. The date is always set a little too early for comfort, but we have to get it ln before the baseball schedule swings into action. This year the choice was Gilbert and Sullivan's 'Patlencen, and what a cute operetta that was! Two aesthetic poets, Bunthorne CGeorge Bilodeauj and Gros- venor CHenry Tobynel turned the heads of twenty maidens much to the disgust of twenty stalwart dragoons. A fhc Hamiltonian 9.1! 8 A14 Q I 'ki Ng, I .4 ylff 'QRS' if rv AC The Hamlltoman THE VARSITY CLUB The Varsity Club was very busy this year sponsoring several functions for the student body In October, we held a record hop and movies ln the gym, the purpose was to help raise a fund for girl's basketball uniforms Every grade was invited, and we all had a wonderful time dancing and laughing at the movies CThe Teacher's Club at the beach J In the middle of February, we sponsored a winter carnival on billy's hill at the Bradford estate. The boys had constructed a ski jump, and everyone had a grand time, either skiing or tobogganing down the hill. It began to snow in the latter part of the afternoon, and the flakes added realistic touch to the carnival. To climax this wonderful day, everyone, still attired in ski clothes, retired to the gym, where a record hop, specializing in Virginia reels, grand marches, and polkas was held. We also made elaborate pl8nS for our spring outing and banquet, which was anticipated with great pleasure, for that was when we received our uH'sH which we had earned during the year in the various sports. l-.1-1.1..1...- s ' e 1 o o s lht Htllllllflblll in CHEERLEADTRQ T aw, George Bilodeau, Barbara Haley, Marie Carlson, Ann Culllty, Ruth Vickery, Barbara Whipple, Betty O'Donnell This year the Cheerleaders have aaaln experlenced a very su cessful season Five new comera were added to the ranks in September and lt was decided purchase new uniform We lnally agreed on whlte jerseys with Hamilton written a ross the front and green sklrts These outfits really stood out on the football field and basketball floor, and helped to encourage us in our cheering We elected Barbara Whipple as head cheerleader and Miss Williams again served as our advisor At the lose of the football season, the cheerleaders, with the help of Miss Williams, splnsored a banquet for the hard work ng football team A record hop was also held later that evening andan en1oyable time was had by all. As usual the cheerleaders werekept onthe hop during the basketballseason, cheering the boys on to victory in another of their successful years. Some times I think we were as happy about the wins and as d1sappo'nted about the losses as the team. Now as cheering draws to a close, we sorrowfully bid several of our members farewell, but we are looking forward to next year and are anxious to welcome the new comers. Later in the evening cheerleaders, players, and many others staged a snake dance through the town, with a dance following at the high school. Lack of stature seemed to be our only handicap, for that 6'5 fellow seemed to be always in our way. As the closing bell sounded, we found ourselves on the bottom of a 44-50 score. We con- sidered this loss a moral victory and by no means a disgrace to lose to such a team. Alvin Whipple, Captain of our great team, along with Hatt, Tate, Brooks, Clock Campbell Flynn, and Trussell, are credited with our every winning At the end of the season, the boys were given a banquet sponsored by the cheerleaders They returned from their last victory at Lancaster to sit down to a wonderful meal, prepared by Miss Williams and her helpers The table was decorated according to football trsditior and speeches were made bv the Captain and the Coach We all felt quite sorry when we realized it ues the last football game for most of us After supper a snake dance was conducted dowr through town and was led by the cheerleaders We carried ourlugh school banner and the cheering could be heard all over the town Threeindividual cheers were giver by the cheerleaders in the center of town and all traffic atm ped for us We returned to the high school for dancing and the members of the team were rewarded by the cheerleaders for their good work' Field hockey came around and once again we saw Nancy C on the fiehddis playing her athletic abilities Hilda Moad and Butt Thompson helped tocarrythe senior on The team wasn't too successful and we shan't out any scores down Wher you are drawing your own conclusions, we shall ask you not to be too harsh er all the girls were getting ready for 48 Cheerleading has become quite a fad in H H S Although the cheerleaders don't receive too much publicity we know thev are appreciated Trey have new green and write uniforms and ever though they don't draw in as much monev as the old ones did,they make a beautiful show on the floor Barb Whipple B O'Donnd1 and h Vickexy hold up the seniors end of the line while B Haley A bull ity, and Narie Carlson hold up the Junior s end Ne had to take B Whi ple out ofdm lead, because she kert yelling our orders ln Polish' That was just too much Basketball came and again heading our professional list we had'Bertn Merrya 'Buttex-bell Bice and this year we have the other member of the Big Slndicate, Claghorn Whlrple. The boys entered the uSmall Schools Tcurnamentu and went right to the finals but were defeated by St. Patricks of Watertown. It was no wonder they got ahead. They certainly had the height on us. They even made But 100k small! Our boys put up a wonderful fight all the way which was almost as good as a win for us. We played in the Boston Arena and won. Our boys must be a team of which we could be proud. The glrls were more successful this year than last. We won some 9 mes any how. We were promised uniforms for the first part of the year, and throughsome- body's hard work, they finally did come for the last game.
