JANE PEfmiNE WINJ RECOCrKITION IN i ' UbLlC Sx ' EAKING Miss Jane Perkins, who is a member of the junicr ciass, was the local winner in the Leg±on Oratorical Contest on Fe’hruary 9. This made her eligible to compete in the District Tournament which was held in Peabody two wfeoieo later. By tying wiuh a student from Lynn Classical High School for fir ' s! place, she became eligible for the zone contest whicn will oe held in Liberty Hall, Lov rell, on Tuesday, March 21. Miss Perkins v.ras also entered in the Districu Tournament of the National Forensic ncague at the Gloucester High Sciiool on Tuesday, March 14. There, ixi the original oratory contest, she won first place over contestants from Gloucester and Lowell. She is now eligible to compete in the State Tournament at Groton on March 31. This honor and recogricion which Mj.ss Perkins is receiving does credit, not only to horccif, but aiso to the school she I ' cpresents. The students and faculty are pioud of nei’ and wish Miss Perkins continuca success in nor eff or tg. iSSLMBLJES During the year, twice monthly, we have been fortunate in hav- ing a series of movies produced by the Yale Chronicle Press. The first one given was entitled ‘ ' ’The Pilgrims,’ ' dealing with the experiences of the Separatists who migrated from Scrooby, Eng- land, in 1607, to Holland; and, tvjclvo years later, to America on the Mayflower, where they landed on Plymouth Rock. Another historical picture was the struggle at Quebec in 1759 of Wolfe and Montcalm for suprerrxacy cf the American continent. Again we witnessed uhe ' ’E‘ ' ’ ' e of the Revolution depicting the the most significant incic ' ents of the decade of 1755-1775. Among salient episodes wc e the ' Stamp Act, ' ' Taxation without Representa- tion,’ the ' Boston Tea Party, ' and ' Paul Revere ' s Ride. ' The capture of ' Vincennes ' (from Hamilton, British Governor- General of the lIorth 7est) by George Rogers Clark in 1799 in the face of tremendous hardsnips was intensely interesting. Space does not permit giving a synopsis of each of the pictures shown. However, tne ethers were equa.lly interesting and historically important.
