G.,4.,4. Sponsors Girls with special ability or interest were appointed by the G.A.A. Coun- cil to manage after school sports for girls. Under the direction of Mrs. Al- len and Mrs. Temkin, the managers planned the program for the year. Circle, bottom left, are managers M. Trout, assistant manager L. Heal rep- resenting D. Robinson, S. Goodwin, J. Guenther, L. Muir, M. Solon, and P. Cruser. Hockey got underway at the begin- ning of the year. Girls who had for- gotten the art of the game soon be- came skillful at putting the ball be- tween the goal posts. Bowling came shortly after, teams were formed, and competition increased as p o i n t s mounted. Ready to bowl are S. Good- win, J. Guenther, P. Cruser, and M. Trout. Two of our big team sports were basketball and softball, with special teams chosen to play rival schools. ln basketball, Pat Cruser is shown read to blow the whistle as players Jeo Drach and Betty Stilwell compete for the ball. Gzrls ' Sports 6 YA 1-5. YI' ' '15 1 The softball team is ready for the game as Sue Collis comes to bat. Softball was a big hit with the girls as those homers came in. The warm days of spring brought out the tennis and golf players. For the golfers, the grips and swings were much smoother as the season progressed. M. Trout, L. Muir, P. Cruser, and N. Edwards are set- ting out for the green. The swish of the rockets sent tennis balls zooming past the onlookers. Posed with tennis rockets are J. Huggins, J. Drach, P, Cruser, and M, Solan. And so that summer might be a safe and pleasant one, the Steinert mermaids made use of the Y.W.C.A. during the win- ter rnonths, Groups were formed of ad- vanced swimmers and beginners, the very hardy began the art of water ballet, Mary Gena Trout plunges into the water as the season gets started.
