RINGMASTER DEDICATION This yearbook is dedicated to the man who offered friendly gestures, warm smiles, and a ditto whenever needed. He spent day after day trying to raise our S.A.T. verbal scores with his “Word for the Day, while we attempted to win a trip to picturesque North Norwich. Occasionally, we got a break from the every- day class routine with his endless amount of “phliks. We had to learn to decipher his chalkboard writing, but he kept us on our toes with his bad puns and, sometimes, he even surprised us with a good joke. He put up with our Junior High track escapades and the infamous Murderers’ Row. He is one of the main at- tractions of Hamilton Central School, one we will always remember. But most of all because he is a good friend, we, the Class of 1984, would like to express our sincere appreciation and dedicate our yearbook to — MR. RICHARD CARROLL. Ladies and Gentlemen ... Children of all ages . .. Welcome to the Greatest Show on Earth! The circus, with its glitter and shine, is symbolic of Hamilton Central School. When we entered the Big Top 13 years ago, we walked into a world apart from reali- ty. Here we were helped to find the faces and personalities that would be uniquely ours. Like the high wire act we risk ourselves, and without those risks there is no glory nor gain. We complain as we try to juggle the three rings of academic, extracurricular, and social lives, but when it’s “All Out and Over,’’ we’re sure we’ll all remember the fun shared. The team had been running awhile, but we hadn't run against any competition yet — no meets or invitationals, not even a time sheet for inter- vals. All that lay ahead. We were practicing now. Pushing and aching a bit, we were trying to get IT back together after a summer vacation that had been too generous with leisure. On this particular workout we had wound our way up through Colgate — by the cemetery, over the chain, onto the ski slopes. We were going to do repeats of the hill — a long, steady climb — and then coast through the woods back down to the start. We're off! Pound . . . surge . . . pump . .. breathe ... x 5, or was it 6? or 7? It doesn't matter now. When done with the hill for the last time, we made our way over to Gorton Road. The air was cool, and the leaves hinted of a color change. It was late afternoon. As we strung out along the path, the rhythmic sound of running feet and muffled voices could be heard. Soon we were back to pavement. We regrouped. “Seven miles today. Fill in the mileage chart. Drews and I knew even that early that the team was good — in fact, maybe it was going to be excep- tional. As we started home, Drews turned to me. Whenever I think of this season, he said, “I just smile.” The smiles never faded. — Mr. Brown dR. AIGTIBASKETBALL JR. HIGH BASKETBALL — Row I Jason Strand. Tim Meier and Charlie Corbin led the team, turning out excellent performances consistently all year. Frank Bufalini, MVP of the Fabius- Pompey tournament, was dazzling behind the plate and with his bat for the E.K.s. The '84 edi- tion of the baseball team has to rebuild in order to defend its Center State Conference Champion- ship, because only five players are returning. The team, however, is being fed by a strong Jr. High program. VARSITY AND cJ.fl. BASEBALL Row 1: Matt Steckler, John McLelland, Greg Barton, Jim Morris, Rich Brantis, Chris Blake, Scott Jeffreys. Remember, abusive drinking is not a sign of maturity — understanding the consequences is. Before you drink consider these facts: Highway accidents — 25,000 deaths per year and 1 3 of all highway injuries are attributed to alcohol related incidents. Child abuse — most cases of child abuse are attributed to alcohol misuse by adults. Cost to society — alcohol abuse in the (J.S. costs over 49 billion dollars in medical, motor vehicle, productivity and associated losses. “Alcohol Abuse” It’s something all of us can live without. Phone 824-3015 MR. DAVID MULLEN He’s the one who pulls it all together. The maestro with his sharp wit and “Never say, ’Can’t”’, the basketball bugler and King of the chorus line takes his last bow. We in the crowd stand in sad appreciation. He’ll be a tough act to follow. A SPEEIAL THANKS Although, she is only one of the Lion Tamer's under the Big Top of H.C.S., Mrs. Nan Washburn was the one that helped us shape our yearbook. We often put her under pressure by waiting until the last minute before the deadline to begin working, but she never gave up on us. She was confident that we would suc- ceed and that gave us the confidence to do just that. She was our advisor in all sense of the word; making suggestions, but leaving it up to us to make the final decisions. Day after day we stayed after school work- ing and she willingly worked along side us. For all these reasons and many more, we the 1984 Hamilto- nian Roustabouts would like to express our sincere thanks to Mrs. Nan Washburn. Thank-you for being our advisor and friend. THE SENIOR FINALE There's an opening parade, and everyone who's in the circus takes part . . . When we’re finished flying, we drop into the net, one by one, do- ing tricks on the way down .. . Then we join in the finale, take one more bow, and the show is over.
