HRMILTONIRN ’64 HAMILTON CENTRAL SCHOOL HAMILTON, NEW YORK VOLUME 46 JUNE 1964 Editor-in-chief........................Laurie Brown Literary Editor.............................Deirdre Leland Business Editor.............................Richard Hodge Photography Editor.....................Steven Jones Art Editor.........................Bonnie Eggleston Sports Editor Harry Brown DEDICATION The 1964 HAMILTONIAN is proudly dedicated to Mr. Andrew L. Lane, Supervising Prin- cipal of Hamilton Central School, whose guidance and judicious administration have been unselfishly given during his eighteen year career here. He has constantly devoted his capabili- ties and talents to the higher objectives of our educational system. His genuine concern and interest in all student activities have enabled him to promote such standards. Through his stead- fast endeavors the building of the new high school became a reality in 1958. This realization was the successful culmination of his tireless efforts to meet the increasing educational chal- lenges. Because of his sincere understanding and encouragement we, the class of 1964, extend our deepest appreciation. The year's at the spring. And day's at the morn; Morning's at seven; The hill-side's dew-pearled; The lark's on the wing; The snail's on the thorn; God's in his heaven - All's right with the world! FOOTBALL The Hamilton Central School Football Team reported for practice in the last week of August to start preparation for the season. In the eleven weeks that followed there were only a few bright spots for the team to enjoy. For the first time in three years Hamilton defeated its first opponent of the season. Waterville 13-6. Hamilton’s offense was lead by quarterback Rich Jones and fullback Blake Lamb. Fine interior line play by Steve Wilder, Giordano, Lynch, Henshaw, and Oates made the backs’ job easier. Following a defeat by Cooperstown. Hamilton won over Chittenango 33-0. Captain Lamb scored three touchdowns, while Jones and Thayer each scored one. In the next four games Hamilton suffered successive defeats by New York Mills, Sherburne. West Winfield, and Sauquoit. But in the final game of the season Hamilton brought home a victory over Clinton. Lamb finished his fine high school career by scoring two touchdowns, while Burch scored the third in the 19-13 upset. Coaches James McCormack and David McKay had many obstacles to overcome throughout the season due to injuries and an inexperienced team. Nevertheless, the train- ing gained this year should contribute to a successful season next year. 68 SENIORS COACHES Mr. McCormick, Mr. McKay CAPTAIN Blake Lamb JOHN BLAKE BRUCE TOM 69 i % ftf; ' WATERVILLE COOPERSTOWN CHITTENANGO NEW YORK MILLS SHERBURNE WEST WINFIELD SAUQUOIT CLINTON KNEELING: B. Coach Mlasgar VARSITY BASKETBALL The Varsity Basketball Team, under the guidance of mentor James Mlasgar, enjoyed a successful season. Four of last year's five starters returned to give the team the experience needed by a ball club. Co-captains Bob Holmes and Blake Lamb, along with Bud Brown and Rich Jones rounded out the starting returnees. Chris Lynch, the fifth starter, had gained experience as a sophomore last year which was apparent in his fine performances. A highlight of the season was the 28 point romp over Cooperstown on the loser's court. This was the first time a Hamilton varsity team had ever beaten Cooperstown on their home court. Fine board control by Wilder. Jones and Lynch made the victory an easy one. Bob Holmes was high man in this game as he tallied 18 points. Hamilton participated in the Westmoreland Christmas Tournament and won while setting a record for the most points scored in one game by a 90 point win over Oriskany. For his fine efforts in the tournament. Bob Holmes was named the Most Valuable Player. The high scoring of Blake Lamb. Bud Brown and Bob Holmes will be missed next year, as well as the fine playing of Steve Wilder, Steve Jones. Bruce Dewey, and Manuel Manrique. CO-CAPTAINS R. Holmes. Bl. BASKETBALL Under the tactics of new coach. Mr. Knies. the Junior Varsity executed a powerful drive for the league leadership from the start of the season. The fine shooting of Mike Hickey and Gary Williams, the play making of Rick Capirci and Dick Horton, and the rebounding of A1 Thayer paced the team to a five game winning streak. A decisive defeat at the hands of a strong N.Y, Mills five brought the possibility of an undefeated season to an end. Coach Knies welded together a team that worked as smoothly as some on the varsity level. An explosive offense comprised of superb teamwork accounted for the many victories the team had. There are bright prospects ahead for the J.V.’s due to the return of starter Horton, Tim Wilder, Jim Griffith. Doug Fredericks, and Leon Trudeau who performed well in reserve roles this year. Although the team was on the losing end of these meets, there were many fine individual performances. How- ever. by tremendous desire and effort the team broke the losing streak with a dramatic victory over Sauquoit. Throughout the year the team was led in practice and in meets by the two fine co-captains. Pete Sacco and Tom Shafer. These two boys along with star performer Phil Henshaw, who graduates in June, will be missed on next year’s squad. However, many of this year’s first string grapplers will return next year to make up the nucleus of what should be a very successful team. Fine pros- pects for next year include Terry Esch.
