CL SS HISTORY The Class of 54 started its long trek through Hamilton High School in 1941 Our Ixlndergarten teacher was Miss Rowe and our chief recollections of that year seem to be ones of huge colored blocks Indian style naps on the hard floors snacksof graham crackers and milk and games played ln the calm of the doll house In First Grade we thought we were some pumpkins Mrs Burke and Miss Fowler kept us busy with reading assignments The 'lerrlble Ad ventures of Jim Judy and 'lag anel learning the alphabet Second Graele uneler the tutelage of Miss Dun ham was an eventful year ln our young lives In the first place we were for the first time all m the same room at the same time fand look at how much sente nce structure weve learnedj Pandemonium' Romance ran rampant Jeff Ingram even went so far as to propose to Sue Storing Secondly we learned how to add and thlrdly we learned how to write ln the Giant group Mrs Nash successfully carried us through Third Grade although at tlmes she had to do lt on her shoulders We all became potential actors and ac tresses that year by putting on a skit about the Indian Pilgrim sltuatlon and we furthered our knowledge of math by learning how to carry figures Fourth Grade was the year of the plague chicken pox that is anel the year that we made those little wooden pigs Mrs Rourke read to us daily while Miss Porter directed Snow White anel Rose Red with Jeff Ingram Gel Hoben Frudy Jennings Sue Storing anei l'red Alvord Miss Porter also kept the class average down with her course IH writing Miss MacCauley let Skip Fltchen and Jeff Ingram correct test papers needless to say the class average noticeably improved Mrs Ferris conducted class elections every month so we learned at an early date the workings of Student Government We ll always remember when Blll Wood said Mrs Ferris wheel and Miss MacCauley s retort of Bill Wood pecker In Sixth Grade we began asserting our new found influence over the other pupils in the Grade School Miss Dunham and Miss Birmingham ushered us through an era of gang fights side shows and football games on the playground During the first part of the year we the Sex enth Graders were chiefly evidenced se-urrvlng from one class room to another trying to make ourselxes a mconsplcuous as possible Graelually under the guidance of WIISS Faucette and Hrs Xmes we assumed quite a grand manner and threw ourselxes into a pro duction of Herbie s Iflrst Date starring Jeff Ingram and G ella Hoben Mr Mackenzie and Mr Decker were in charge of us ln Eighth Grade That year we all le arned lots of Jokespw courtesy of Mr 'Nlaclxe nzle and took a most informative and oelorlferous trip to the Hamilton Sewage Disposal Plant xh00Illt anel Dan taught Sue and Jane how to play cards in Art f lass And for some strange reason all the girls practlcally went crazy our the mere mention of the names f urt Norris and Ifred Dunlap Probably through pure coincidence four teachers who shall go nameless culminated their teaching careers at Hamllton after we had been pro moted to Ninth Grade High School wlth all of its many responslbxlitles started ln earnest for us when we reached Ninth Grade As Freshmen we began to participate in sports dramatics and musical organizations and sponsored concessions and dances on our own Harry Hadley and Shirley Frmk joined our class yust in time to help us rebuild our Pep Rally Bonfire Farl Albrecht and Morris Brown departed from our happy family Miss Faucette and Mr Sandwlck were our home room teachers during the Sophomore year Some of us went to I ooperstown with the Seniors to see the museums and Sue Storing came back from a much longer trip to Norway We had no additions to our class but Nancy Johnson and Lester Rockwell left us and Harriet Kerr came and went Most of the Junior year seemed to be concerned with acquiring our class rings We achlex ed some sort of dubious dlstlnctlon by not having a class picnic but we did help to make the annual June Prom a success Skip F ltchen left for Europe and came back just in time for Regents Farol Solllen Ne ta Tuzzo Natalie Purdy and Leonarel Towsley left us In 1954- we finally reached the Se nlor homeroom and its curator Miss Gardiner It took us a while to realize that we were Seniors but now we are aware of the fact that this has been the best of thirteen hne years and one which we will remember throughout our lives L L x s . . fs v J . 1 , , , .
