CLASS PROPHEC Y I am a member of Hamllton Hlgh s class of 1950 and I ve Just awakened from a long sleep I must have slept a long txme mdeed for they say lt IS now 1970 and the last thmg I remember was our celebratxon the n1ght of graduat1on When I f1rst awoke I went mstmctlvely stra1ght to school arr1v1ng of course Just after the last bell M1ss Gardner sent me to the off1ce for pass and then I saw somethmg was changed at H H S for a certa1n M1ss Palmer appeared to be Pr1nc1pal and a Mr Keefe V1ce Pr1nc1pal Bew1lder ed I Jo1ned the students who were march1ng orderly to assembly under the wh1plash of the V1ce pr1nc1pal The Assembly I enjoyed very much as It conslsted of mus1c by the Hamllton Symphony Orchestra a magmfxcent en senble 1n wh1ch Patr1c1a Butler famous v1ol1n1st IS concert master and Mary Myers drum solo1st After the Alma Mater Pr1nc1pal Palmer announced that the students would be glad to hear that Fred Warnes 50 had won the Nat1onal Sportsmansh1p Trophy on the occas1on of h1s ret1re ment from profess1onal basketball From th1s I deduced that few of my classmates would be 1n school so I strolled uptown remarkmg that on all the trees and telephone poles there were posters urg1ng everyone to Vote for Chamber1a1n for Governor Farmer Fox for Mayor Repubhcan Democrat1c Soc1al1st Commu.n1st T1ckets Town looked much the same as ever except for a profus1on of small a1rplanes hover1ng about As I was watchmg these a smart looklng buslness woman walked past and 1nto a store whose s1gn read Slebert and Husband How much she looks hke Betty I mused and then when I when several of the hehocopters landed on the s1dewalk near me I had no trouble recogn1z1ng the occupants three farmers com1ng to town w1th the1r large fam1l1es for Saturday shopp1ng In sp1te of the1r beards I knew the men for Dlck Sawyer Larry Dav1s and Howard Bllnebry Enternig a large off1ce bu1ld1ng and tak1ng an elevator to the e1ghth floor I saw an open door on wh1ch was pr1nted Samuel W1ll1am Ingram .Tr Engmeer and Arch1tect I entered unobserved and watched the red headed R P I graduate as he dxscussed plans for a new school gyrn w1th the bu1ld 1ng s donor local m1ll1ona1re Dav1d Adams Esq As I left I saw that Mr Ingram s very attract1ve secretary was MarJor1e Sawyer Down the hall I had notlced there was an art stud1o and lookmg rn I saw the well known fashlon artlst M I Barber pa1nt1ng a wonderful advertlsement for K1ngsbury s Klothlng Shoppe The model the much marr1ed Kay Moran hved up to her reputatlon for beauty as she wore w1th grace the ankle length beltless gown wh1ch seemed to be 1n style Fee11ng the need for some sustenance after a sleep of twenty years I almost ran 1nto the nearest restaurant Landphler s Dmer and pract1cally knocked over the proprletress as she stood m the doorway talk1ng to one whose flashmg sm1le even age could not d1m Ralph Godfrey In callmg a wa1tress who stood near me I sa1d w1thout th1nk1ng Harr1et and It was she but she dxdn t know me even w1th my class r1ng m full v1ew I was also a stranger to Lenore Burch who brought me my coffee I must be terr1bly changed Then I got 1nto trouble as I took out my purse to pay for the meal, Z0 . . , -- , . 0 . . , . .
