. 7,7 QWWMZWJMT THE BAND This year the band, now increased to nearly fifty pieces, made an excellent showing at all the home football games and at the Cazenovia game at Cazenovia. It also played for several basketball games. As this book goes to press, the band has its principal activities yet to come, namely, the Madison County Music Festival, and the New York State Band and Orchestra Contest, the latter preliminaries to be held in Hamilton. The finals will be held as usual in Syracuse. It is hoped that the Green and White Band may come out as well as it did last year at which time it was the only band in the state to win a place in concert playing as well as in marching. This year the Board of Education bought for the band several fine new in- struments, including tympani, a new drum set, bells, a bass clarinet, and a bass saxophone. With these and other new instruments the band has attained a much better and more balanced instrumentation with which it should reach newer and greater heights. Much praise is due Mr. Gall and Mr. Qtto for their fine work in making our band the leading organization of its kind in the county. Top Row: Gaylord, Gazlay, Greenleaf, Carroccio, Wheeler, R. 4199995 THE GRCHESTRA This year the size of our orchestra has been increased by the addition of some new instruments among which are the tympani, bells and bass clarinet. Although the orchestra has not become very much larger, it has greatly improved in quality. The orchestra has enjoyed playing for its many concerts, some of which have been in other schools as well as in our own school. Among these concerts were numerous special assembly programs, the Parent Teachers Banquet, the three-act play, Polly of the Circus, the Prize Speaking Contest, the annual operetta and a tour of neighboring schools. The orchestra worked diligently to enter the preliminary Band and Orchestra contest which was held in Hamilton this year. Another important event in the history of this organization was its participation in the Madison County Music Festival held at Madison during the latter part of May. Congratulations should be given to Mr. Gall for his excellent leadership ol our orchestra. Top Row: Larsen, Gazlay, Austin, C., Peckham, Austin, D.
