THE H 4 M IL TON I A N 1927 Year book of llamilfon Hzqlz Whoo! f1fhleiz'c.f, 1926-27 AMILTON High athletics may be said to have enjoyed a good year in 1926-27. In football, two games were won, three lost, and two re- sulted in scoreless ties. Keith Young, as coach, started practice With but six letter men from last year. Games were won from Sherburne and St. Aloysius of Rome, lost to Sherrill, Norwich and New Hartford, and tied with Cana- joharie and Canastota. Captain Stapleton, Benedict, Mooney and Usher will be lost to the team for next year, but the prospects are bright with Rausa, Evans, Wickwire, MarElia, Gulbran, Bacon, Lynch, Fagan, P. Benedict, Moten and several others available. No captain has as yet been chosen to succeed Earl Stapleton. Keith Young, manager of Hamilton High athletics, is working on the football schedule for next year and promises some stiff games. Hamilton High enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in basketball in recent years, when thirteen games were Won and four were lost. Bob Roberts took over the coaching from 1925-26 with about nine lettermen. Hamilton, competing in the Upper Mohawk Valley League for the lirst time, won all six league games and a silver cup. George Mooney was elected captain and the team was composed of Rausa, Evans, Mooney, Lawler and Karpp. Several changes were made during the season, due to the loss of Karpp because of scholastic difficulties, and the usual shifting of players. After the close of the League Hamilton journeyed to Utica and played Oriskany Falls, coached by Prof. johnson, in the elimination for the best team in Central New York to be sent to Buffalo for the state championship. Hamilton won and a few days later played Oswego at Syracuse, thereby dropping out of the running for the State Championship. Only Mooney will be lost for next year, and the prospects are bright for another successful season. This year, as in other years, the Colgate gym has been used. However, next year, with the completion of the new addition to the High School, with a new gymnasium, Hamilton High hopes to have a court of her own. The following men will be ready next year when the call for the courtsters is issued: Captain--elect Evans, Rausa, Wickwire, Lawler, Lynch, Bacon, Fagan, Gaylord, Moten, Karpp, and several others.
