AMDEN IGH s 1940 VELMA RUTH BURTON Vel 5 8 Lake Street Velma attended the Putnam Avenue School and Hamden Hall during her freshman and sophomore years before she came to Hamden High School. Her activities at school were in the Music Club and in intramurals. She is interested in sewing, cooking, skating, dancing, and reading. Her plans for the coming year are undecided. MARJORIE ANNE BUTLER Marge 2028 Whitney Avenue Marjorie came to Hamden from the Spring Glen Grammar School. While at Hamden she has been a member of the Pen Club. the Music Club, the Marionette Club, and the Freshmen Girls' Glee Club. She has also been on Independent Study and has been a gym assistant for two years. Marjorie's hobbies are music, reading. drawing, and writing. She plans to attend Larson's Junior College. DOROTHY MARY CAMPBELL Dot 4 2 Winnette Street Dorothy attended the Pawling Junior High School in New York before being graduated from Helen Street School. Tap dancing class and intramurals have been foremost among her activities here. Dorothy is interested in dancing, skating. and swimming. After graduation she hopes to secure a position in the business world. EDWARD CANN Eddie 74 Park Avenue Edward came to Hamden from the Spring Glen Grammar School. For three years he has been a member of the Hockey Team and during his senior year he was elected captain. He has played one year of varsity football, has been on the track team, and has played intramural basketball. His hobbies are skating and swimming. Eddie's plans for next year are, as yet, undecided. EARL CARLIN 93 Wakefield Street Earl entered Hamden from the Spring Glen Grammar School. While at Hamden, he was on the '39 Prom Committee and he served as sports editor of The Dial, and was class treasurer during his junior year. He is interested in sports, reading, an-do the movies. S off W AMDEN IGH FREDERIC WILLIAM BROWN, JR. Freddie 44 Belmont Avenue Fred came to Hamden after being graduated from Putnam Avenue School, then attending Riverside Military Academy. He has been on the varsity football team for two years, and during his sopho- more year he was a member of the Archery Club and the Hunting and Fishing Club. Fred's interests are sports. Next year he plans to enter Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. SHIRLEY RODMAN BUCKINGHAM Buck Academy Road, Cheshire Shirley is a graduate of the Humiston School in Cheshire. She has been the assistant editor of The Dial and a member of the Math Club. She also has served on THE VENTURE editorial board. Shirley's favorite hobbies are swimming and taking candid camera shots. She has received honors in both her junior and senior years. Next year she plans to attend Pembroke College. DOROTHY ANNE BURGESS J lfBugs!I SQA M44 - Millbrook Road Q be Dorothy entered Hamden from the Worthington Hooker School -Q Dk in New Haven. She has been a member of the Debating Club, the I Cupola board, THE VENTURE editorial board, the Radio Squad. 1940 the Traiiic Squad, the Student Council, and the Girls' Glee Club. Dorothy was chosen Hamden High School candidate to the D.A.R. Convention. Her interests are swimming, tennis, and clay modeling. She will attend Skidmore College next year. MARY MARGARET BURKE ff? MW ffMarf, l 98 First Street Mary came to Hamden after she had been graduated from the Dixwell Avenue School. Her favorite interests and hobbies are ice-skating, swimming, and tennis. Mary plans to attend the Post Business College in YVaterbury. LESTER GORDON BURTON Les 5 8 Lake Street Lester was graduated from the Putnam Avenue School and attended Hamden Hall before coming to Hamden High. He has been a member of the Home Economics Club for boys, the Dra- matics Club, and the Look-around Club. He is interested in cooking. woodwork, photography, bicycling, scout work, hiking, and camping. His plans for the coming year are undecided. Page Sixteen

AMDEN IGH I 1940 ELIZABETH JANE CASE Betty Janeu 53 Harmon Street Betty Jane was graduated from the Spring Glen Gra School. She was a member of various clubs and of the Girls' ir and the Mixed Glee Club. She has been a guidance office assis nt and has played basketball and hockey on the girls' intram ral teams. She is interested in church work. Next year Betty nc plans to enter Grace Hospital for training as a nurse. ELEANOR CASERTANO HEI., East Main Street, Cheshire Eleanor attended the Humiston School in Cheshire before coming to Hamden High School. She is interested chiefly in horseback riding and in ice-skating. Next year Eleanor plans to attend a business college, but she has not yet decided which one. PA TRICIA LQUISE CHAPMAN Pat 20 21 Whitney Avenue Patricia attended the Suffern Junior High School. Suffern, New York. and the Sumter High School, Sumter, South Carolina. While at Hamden she belonged to the Camp Fire Girls. the Band. thc Girls' Glee Club, the Mixed Glee Club. the Student Council. and the Rifle Club. Pat is interested in dancing, horseback riding. and shooting. She hopes to enter Stephens College in Columbia. Missouri, after graduation. ADRIENNE FRANCES CHERNOFE 80 Second Street Adrienne came to Hamden from New Haven High School. Her activities here have included the Rifle Club and The Dial business board Her favorite hobbies are traveling, sports. and dancing. Next year she plans to attend University of Connecticut. JOHN ARTHUR CLOUSE Jack 3846 Whitney Avenue John attended the Mt. Carmel Grammar School before coming to Hamden. He has been a member of the Hunting and Fishing Club and of the football squad. He has been also active in shop service and cafeteria work. John is interested in hunting, Hshing, skating. hockey, and horseback riding. His plans for the coming year are undecided.
