He acted as manager of the basketball team and was a member of the Shop Service Club. Ice-skating, hockey, and swimming are John's hobbies. He is interested in mechanical work and plans to be a carpenter. RUSSELL SPENCER BRAGDON Russ 50 Treadwell Street S1 1 Russ was graduated from Putnam Avenue School. At Hamden he was a member of the band. He was an able player on both the hockey and football teams. Russ' hobbies are hockey, baseball, and swimming. In the fall he plans to enter a preparatory school or a college. Nl!-XRY MCNAB BRAINARD 40 Millbrook Road From Spring Glen School Mary came to Hamden where she has belonged to the Girls' Glee Club, the A-Cappella Choir, the Fencing Club, and the Swimming Club. Mary was vice-president of her class in 1938-39 and also served on the Prom Committee in her junior year. This year she was a member of The Dial and THE VENTURE editorial boards. Photography, sailing. swimming, music, and English are her interests. She is entered at Colby Junior College. Q0-0 SHIRLIE E. BRISTOL HB 1- ,, QU 3300 Whitiaiy Avenue 4 After graduation from Mt. Carmel School Shirlie entered Ham- ia s N den. Here she has been a Dial board member, assistant in the gym X 1940 LLL, and library and has belonged 'to the Dramatics Club. Her outside interests are dancing. swimming, and skating. She is a swing music fan. Photography is Shirlie's hobby. She has no definite plans for next year. 8 ELLA ELIZABETH BRowN ek 3165 whitney Avenue any Ella attended Mt. Carmel School. While at Hamden, she has been in the 'Girls' Choir and of the Mixed Glee Club. She likes music, reading, scouting, hiking, and camping, and her hobby is collecting post-cards. AMDEN IGH WINIFRED IRENE BERTINE Winnie 76 Church Street From Church Street School, Winifred entered Hamden where she joined the Tap Dancing Club. Her favorite outside activities are skating, reading, and dancing. Winifred is planning to attend a junior college. LYNETTE JESMA BISHOP MLW., East Main Street Lynette attended the Humiston Grammar School. When she came to Hamden she joined the Dramatics Club, the Girls' Glee Club, the Rifle Club, and the Math Club. Horseback riding, swimming, skating, ping-pong, badminton and dancing are her outside interests. Next year Lynette hopes to enter the University of Connecticut. LORRAINE DEAN BOCTHE llzdorry!! 85 James Street Lorraine was graduated from Centerville School. She has been an outstanding member of the Girls' Glee Club and of the AfCap- pella Choir. She served on The Dial editorial board for two years and has worked on The Cupola editorial board in her senior year. Lorraine is interested in the Rifle Club and the Swimming Club. Her hobbies are horseback riding, swimming and dancing. Next year she hopes to enter college. . LAURA ALICE BORSARI S 1887 Dixwell Avenue From the Centerville School, Laura entered Hamden where she has been interested in the Dramatics Club, the Girl Reserves, the Tinkering Club, and the Stamp Club. She was secretary of the ass in 1938 was a member of the Student Council for two years 4 mid was a representative-at-large to the council in her junior year. 1940 Laura was chairman for the Sub-,Freshman Day Committee in 1940. Her hobbies are sports, reading and dancing. She is undecided about future plans. EMILY RENE BOZZI 53 St. Mary Street After being graduated from Newhall Street School, Emily came to Hamden where as a freshman she served on the Student Council and was interested in the Public Speaking Club and the Archery Club. In her junior year she worked on The Dial editorial board. Emily enjoys sports. She plans to become a comptometer operator. Page Fourteen W

S off W AMDEN IGH FREDERIC WILLIAM BROWN, JR. Freddie 44 Belmont Avenue Fred came to Hamden after being graduated from Putnam Avenue School, then attending Riverside Military Academy. He has been on the varsity football team for two years, and during his sopho- more year he was a member of the Archery Club and the Hunting and Fishing Club. Fred's interests are sports. Next year he plans to enter Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. SHIRLEY RODMAN BUCKINGHAM Buck Academy Road, Cheshire Shirley is a graduate of the Humiston School in Cheshire. She has been the assistant editor of The Dial and a member of the Math Club. She also has served on THE VENTURE editorial board. Shirley's favorite hobbies are swimming and taking candid camera shots. She has received honors in both her junior and senior years. Next year she plans to attend Pembroke College. She has been a member of the Debating Club, the I Cupola board, THE VENTURE editorial board, the Radio Squad. 1940 the Traiiic Squad, the Student Council, and the Girls' Glee Club. Dorothy was chosen Hamden High School candidate to the D.A.R. Convention. Her interests are swimming, tennis, and clay modeling. She will attend Skidmore College next year. MARY MARGARET BURKE ff? MW ffMarf, l 98 First Street Mary came to Hamden after she had been graduated from the Dixwell Avenue School. Her favorite interests and hobbies are ice-skating, swimming, and tennis. Mary plans to attend the Post Business College in YVaterbury. LESTER GORDON BURTON Les 5 8 Lake Street Lester was graduated from the Putnam Avenue School and attended Hamden Hall before coming to Hamden High. He has been a member of the Home Economics Club for boys, the Dra- matics Club, and the Look-around Club. He is interested in cooking. woodwork, photography, bicycling, scout work, hiking, and camping. His plans for the coming year are undecided. Page Sixteen
