Allen Lesher, Treasurer, Brenda Balthaser, Secretary, Donald Bailey, President, Ronald Brown, Vice President Senior Class Officers We, the senior class of '68, are the first class to complete our junior and senior high years in this new building. During this time we went to sport activities, dances, and other functions, and in our senior year we had special activities: choosing class colors-blue and white-, Choosing class flower- white rose- going on the class trip, and giving the class play. We'll miss this school which has prepared us for college, working, and just living. And we will always try to follow our motto Less than our best is failure. ALVIN R. ADAM Industrial KATHRYN L. HIGHLIGHTS answers these and many other questions of the student body. The HIGHLIGHTS staff is quite proud of their complete and efficient coverage of all the school news. These students, with help from advisor Mrs, Paisley, work quite hard in order to put out a good paper every two weeks. In addition to constantly working to improve the paper, the students on the staff still find time to sponsor an annual dance and put on the Dimpled Darlings show. These activities, along with money from subscriptions, bring in enough money so that after the paper is printed there is enough money left for some members to attend conventions where they can learn how to improve their paper. ,lf 5 Standing N, Becker, R. Farming todayis no longer just working with muscle power. Today's farmers work with their minds, too. This is one of the primary reasons for the existence of the organization of the Future Farmers of America. The club is composed of all boys study- ing vocational agriculture in this school. The members of the Hamburg Area Chapter are in turn members of the Berks County Chapter. Two events commemorating graduation at Hamburg Area High School are the Baccalaureate Service and Commencement Exercises. Baccalaureate, held on June 2, 1968, was directed by the Hamburg Ministerium. The Rev. Martin Zerkle conducted the service and Rev. Paul Fisher presented the sermon. The invocation for the Commencement program was offered by Rev. Morris F. Houck, Jr. After speeches by the Honor students, W. Francis Swingle, an Assistant Professor of English at King's College, gave the commencement address. The class then received their prized diplomas. These young people have now left their high school years behind, but they have entered a broader, more complex, and exciting world-their future. Senior Events On April 26 the seniors traveled to Washington, D. C. for their class trip. As a group the class toured the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, then the Capitol, where they witnessed a session of the Senate. After eating inthe House Cafeteria the class abserved the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and viewed the late President Kennedy's grave in Arlington National Cemetery. The group spent the remainder of their time in the Smithsonian Institute and trudging up the Washington Monument. Plenty of talking, laughing, walking, singing, and eating--all these made quite an exciting day in Washington, D. C. for Hamburg Area High School seniors. 141 Senior Activities +I
