Schayne Mayt Pretty Girls-'MAY DAY 4 FOREWORD It is with fond memories and a genuine sense of loss that we leave Ham- burg High this year. We are leaving this world of studies and school friends and going into one of work and responsibilities. And as our high school days draw to a close we look to the past for guidance and strength and to the future with confidence and courage. For this reason, we, the class of 1953, have chosen a Pennsylvania Dutch theme for our yearbook. We are proud of our heritage and our ancestors who came across the treacherous seas to build a new life here in America. We feel that their courage and strength is a shining light to guide us in this chaotic world today. They overcame insurmountable obstacles to build the world we know. They were not afraid. And so from them we gain our confidence to continue as they began. To Mr. Alvin Kemp and Mr. Gilbert Snyder we are deeply indebted for the invaluable aid they so willingly gave us. We have tried to the best of our ability and resources with which to work, to make this 1953 Pinnacle one that can be remembered after the present day war-like world in which we live is again the peaceful world toward which the Pennsylvania Dutch are always striving. WE the Class of 1955, are pub- lishing this book in memory of Frank Cleaver who was one of us, but was unable to complete the MMMJ journey. Zin Memnriam Lone are the paths, and sad the bowers, Whence thy meek smile is gone, But oh! a brighter home than ours In heaven is now thine own. FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS 6 D D I C A T 1 s qfx 0 N XVE, the class of W55, wish to dedicate our Pin- nacle to Miss Anna Balthaser who, through her untiring efforts, has made the Pin- nacle possible. For several years she has had the responsibility of seeing that the Pin- nacle is published, as well as taking care of many other activities of the Senior Class. So in sincere ap- preciation of what she has done, we wish to thank her for a very excellent job. . ,ff i . ,, -...IN If l.....i ' f A ' --'- - 1' ' 'U A . f -u. .. 1, 'nf M- - A , , ,-........... 1, .. - k,k I .... 3- X ..,, G Jkfwf' -y.. BOARD OF EDUCATION We wish to take this page to show our appreciation to the organization behind the scenes who sees to it that everything runs smoothly and efficiently -the School Board. Through their efforts the school is supplied with pencils, tablets, text- books, a competent staff of teachers, and among other things the teachers' pay check. It is impossible to repay these men in monetary value for all they have done and made possible, for it was they who really made our graduation possible. Thanks again for all you have done. 10 THE class of l953 wishes to thank Mr. Price for all the help and guidance that he has given us during our high school years. We wish to express our gratitude and MR. CHARLES PRICE S11pe1'1'2.ri11g Prizlripal thanks to you, Mr. Price, for being a friend as well as an instructor who sent us out of high school pre- pared to meet and overcome the obstacles along life's Way. Wfe would not be able to conclude our school career without giving credit where credit is due. Laying the foundation for an education is not an easy job. It takes pa- tience, kindness, and understanding, but the teachers in the elementary grades had those qualities and taught us what was necessary to make us better young men and women. And so we wish to devote this page to the sole purpose of showing our everlasting gratitude to our grade school teachers for starting us on our way. 51 MR. Marjorie Emhardt, ,iecreltzrjf Terry Greenawalt, inelllreiidezllf Bryan Hartman, lbreaidwll. CLASS OF 1954 As this class started into its junior year, ofhcers were elected to guide their affairs. To lead the way, they chose Bryan Hartman, and as vice president they elected Terry Greenawalt. To record the min- utes of their meetings, Marjorie Ipmhardt was chosen, and Lee Degler was elected to handle all financial matters. Having chosen green and white as their class colors, they chose a style for their jackets which were later received with much satisfaction and joy. Their next adventure was to choose their class rings. They then made their down payments and anxiously awaited that day when they would receive their l'lI1iLIS. To take part in Student Council, they chose Doris Bailey and joan Leibensperger, Sylvia Hartman, and Stanley Lesher. The juniors have contributed much in the held of sports. Such athletes as Clarence Heck, Paul Moyer, Ronald Dreibelbis, and Bryan Hartman and others helped our Hawks to victory, The girls were also active in basketball. Among them were Phoebe Achenbach, june Brown, Nancy Bailey and Vicki Fraunfelter. As a way of raising money they sold Christmas cards. Because the class before them was so suc- cessful in this project, they felt sure they could do even better, and as a result they increased their balance in the treasury considerably. Early in the new year they sponsored a dance called the Chlorophyll Hop. It was quite impres- sive since they were known as the Chlorophyll Kids. As prizes they gave all products that con- tained chlorophyll. As it is customary, the juniors sponsored the Senior Prom. They had quite a time until they found decorations to tit to the theme, but the affair was a grand success. We, the Class of 1953, wish them the best of luck on the road to graduation. IUNIURS P. P. We who are old students at H.H.S. know it is our coach, Mrs. Wengert, and her faithful teams practicing. Hockey, the youngest girls' sport at H.H.S. has become a must on the list of activities for our girls. Although the girls failed to bring home the North- ern Division Championship, they had a quite suc- cessful season. The girls won 1 game, tied 2, and lost 3. We are hoping for a more promising season next year. Basketball, the favorite sport of the girls again gained recognition, when the girls brought home their fourth consecutive Northern Division trophy. During the season the girls scored 266 points to their opponents 162. The team will lose 5 members, but there is a lot of up and coming material to carry on the good work. . Due to the fact that this book had to go to press before any games were played we have no reports of the outcome of the 1952-53 softball season. How- ever, we can give the unpublished reports from the 1951-52 season. Last year the Hawkettes won the Northern Division Championship. The girls were presented a leg trophy and are looking forward to keeping it for a second year. Good luck girls! Let's have more trophies for that trophy case. , if f-f.
