4.2. HALSTEAD HIGH SCHCOL BAND DRUM MAJORETTE AND TWIRLERS: Janet Mahan, Linda Hall, Carol Cox, Mary Jo Sumpter, Marjean Bisoni, Judy Redinger. The Halstead High School concert band was directed by Mr. Frank Malambri and was made up of 59 students. In September they marched at the Hutchinson State Fair and participated in the Emporia Band Day being the number one band in the parade. In October the marching band participated at Newton for the Bethel College homecoming. For League contest they went to Nickerson on March 26 and received a superior lus rating At Emporia, for district contest, on April 5 they received a highly superior rating. The numbers played on both occasions were, lnvercargill and Finlandia. The band also gave two concerts this year. The first was the mid-winter concert given in November and the other was the spring formal concert given in April. Vocal music was directed by Miss Fran Best and consisted of the sixty-three voice mixed chorus and the girls glee club. The groups went to Haven for the League Music Festival on March li and received highly superior and superior ratings . They also received the same ratings at the District contest held at Emporia on April 5. The songs which were sung on both occasions by the mixed chorus were Consider The Lilies Of The Field and Let There Be Music . The glee club sang We Gather Here and Crystal Night Both groups took part in the Christmas Vespers program and the mixed chorus also gave a Formal spring concert in May. l I Xl ll XX x ff X 1 N f, GIRLS ff f
