MUSIC fggggi Ig' ff' -if l T WB The music department, under the direction of Frank Malambri, consisted of three large organizations--the band, the mixed chorus, and the girls' glee club--six ensembles, and numerous soloists, both instrumental and vocal. The Pride and joy of Halstead, the high school band, resplendent in their new blue and grey uniforms, participated in numerous events during the '51-'52 season. They marched in the Hutchinson State Fair parade and took part in the K. S. T. C. Emporia and Wichita U Band Days. The band played and performed for all the home football games and provided a pep band at all the home basketball games and pep rallies. They marched in BAND the annual Santa Claus parade and held exchange concerts with Sedgwick later in the year. Highlights of the year for the band were the Mid-Winter Concert and the Spring Formal Concert, held in the high school auditorium. The department entered twenty-one groups and solos in the MKL Music Festival and twenty-four in the District Festival. By getting l ratings, nine soloists and three ensembles qualified to go to the State Music Contest held at Emporia. Out of these twelve entries, four won highly superior ratings, six won superior ratings, and two won excellent ratings.
