After a hard day's work, he never refused to drive us over snowy or icy roads to Farmington, Bangor, or wherever. It was he who kept our baseball diamond in fine condition and who built an abutment to keep falling gravel from ruining the skating rink. We can't begin to enumerate all the things he has done for us, but no one has been more loyal and ready to help us in any way. Money for his tasks he scorned. H .IUNIORS ,fzzuiar 611155 Notes In the fall of the year 1952, our class made its long awaited debut into the society of upper-class- men. Naturally this event was readily accepted by the lower classmen: for they needed someone with our greater experience and caliber to look to for guidance. The first interest was the football season. Several boys in our class took part in this activity. Although the season was short, the cheerleaders, as well as the boys from our class, made a very good showing. Jun- ior representatives on the football squad were Robert Beaudoin, Bary Christie, Robert Gregg, and David Marston. Girls on the cheering squad were Beverly Braley, Beverly Pare, Janet Shea, and Carolyn Wilson Our girls were well represented in basketball, too: for we had Nancy Tobey as assistant manager, and the following on the squad: Beverly Pare, Patricia Weed, Patricia Poulin, Carole Rancourt, Janet Shea, Joyce Truman, and Carolyn Wilson. Robert Beaudoin and Gary Christie were active in boys' basketball. When Hokey Pokey Minstrel came around, we were well represented as a class. Bruce Hamilton was among the Endmen: and in specialty acts were Sara Hamilton, Peggy Heald, Beverly Pare, Judy Payson, Francesca Waterhouse, and Carmen and Marilyn Paul. We were also well represented in the chorus: Bev- erly Braley, Patricia Carey, Mary Maher, David Mar- ston, Nancy Tobey, Joyce Truman, Patricia Weed, and Carolyn Wilson. Our class officers are as follows: Bob Beaudoin, President, Beverly Braley, Vice President, Patricia Weed, Secretary, and Janet Shea, Treasurer. We have several representatives in the newly formed French Club. Among the officers are Bruce Hamil-I ton, Vice President, Fran Waterhouse, Secretary, and Mary Maher, Treasurer. Other members of the club are Beverly Braley, Patricia Weed, Sara Hamilton, and Nancy Tobey. We have done our best to set a good example for the underclassmen, and we sincerely believe that they have improved their ways, simply by following this example given by a class of such high integrity. SUPHOMORES oplzamvrc glass' Nm' This is a brief report of the people that make the Sophomore Class such an outstanding class. The officers elected by the class were Kent Boothby, President, David Heald, Vice President, Betty Le- rette, Secretary, and Vivian Varney, Treasurer. Be- atrice Rouillard and Ronnie Lord are members of the Student Council. ln sports the Sophomores make up the team l Kent Boothby, Lefty Hill, James McDonald, Powers Mc- Lean, Dom Cloutier, and Ronnie Lord, all received varsity suits this year in basketball, and a good many of them played regularly. On the J.V. team we had Bob Bowman, Winfield Bearce, David Heald, and Ronnie Lord. Also from the Sophomore Class came the managers of the Basketball team, Bill Edgecomb and Jim Burgess. All our athletes were on the football team. Anita Bennett, Colleen Greeley, Beatrice Rouillard, and Anita Rancourt received suits in bas- ketball. Betty Driscoll, Nancy Webster, and Betty Lerette also played. When it was time for the Hokey Pokey Minstrel, the Sophomores were right there with their talent. We had Paul Plumer and Bob Bowman as End Men. They made the show one of the best in quite a while. Other specialties were Delores Tarzia, Betty Lerette and Anita Rancourt. Many others sang in the Chorus. You can see the sdiool could not do without the Sophomore Class, whether in sports, rninstrels, or what have you. We all have a good time in school and are looking forward to two more years here. Anita Rancourt '53 FRESHMEN ?rcsl1ma14 The present Freshman Class consists of forty -eight pupils. Officers elected the first of the year were: President, Connie Barton, Secretary, Ann LeClair, Vice President, Dick Holbrook, and Treasurer, Ar- thur Avore. Representatives to Student Council are Jacqueline Baker and Gerald Parker. Our initiation came about four weeks after school started. The boys had to wear girls' dresses stuffed with pillows, a kerchief around their heads, and many other things. The girls had to wear dresses cut off above the knees, runney stockings, and mens' shoes. A couple of the funniest stunts were, Philip Cloutier being a sound -effects man, and Bill Smith reciting the alphabet as a politician, then as a lover, and then as a mad person. When it was over, we were all quite a mess, but we had a lot of fun. By the time the minstrel rolled around, our freshmen were ready for it. We had two specialty acts. They were Philip Cloutier doing a tap dance, and Ann Le- Clair and Connie Barton Doing a comedy skit. Sev- eral freshmen were in the chorus. We had a few candidates for Mr. Arbor's basketball team. The boys that made the J.V. team are Ar- thur Avore, Bob Gray, Butch Lathe, Edward Black, and John Albee. Girls that made the Girls' Basket- ball Team are Betty Johnson, Connie Reid, and Barbara Beane. Early in the year of 1952-53, Dick Holbrook was stricken with polio. We were all very sorry, but we all hope to have him with us again next year. Smio Flay IH , , On the fourteenth of January nearly every senior tried out for a part in their play, Finders Creepers, a mystery farce. Those chosen for the parts were Dammy Wilson as Hercules Nelson, Ronald Edgecomb as Wilbur Maxwell, Barbara Tilley as Celeste, Cath- leen Hamilton as Nina Quigley, Betty Charpentier as Frankie, Angenett Rich as Aunt Mary, Robert Plaisted as Uncle Bob, Virginia Norwood as Granny, Eddie Emery as Mr. Quigley, Marshall Dulac as Dr. Brown, Johan Allen as Madeline, Winfield LaBreck as Harry Schuster, Stephanie Campana as Daphne, John McPherson as Claude, and Margaret Bey as the undertaker's helper. Joanne Lathe and Phyllis White offered their services as prom pters. Joanne Lathe had charge of the properties plus assistance from the senior boys. Mrs. Daker, as usual, did an excellent job coaching. A THLETICS PLAYERS Boy ' 15,11 ke 6 ll XX COACH ARBOR CAPTAIN DULAC This year we planned on a good year with three starters, Marshall Dulac, Kent Boothby, and John McPherson back from last year's tournament team. Also back from last year's varsity squad were: Rob- ert Hill, Powers McLean, Robert Beaudoin, Ronald Edgecomb, Danny Wilson, and Ronald Lord. We started with easy wins over Winthrop and Jay, then dropped by close decisions to Cony and Gardiner, both Class L schools. We kept on winning a good share of our games, and we had high hopes of gaining a spot in the East- ern Maine Tournament until guard Robert Hill was lost for the rest of the season. Hill was an important player on our team, and after his loss, we Went into a slump. We didn't get a bid to the Eastern Maine Tour- nament, but we went to Waterville to the K.V.C. tournament. The day before the opening game, Marshall Dulac, regular forward and a high scorer of the team, was lost with a sprained ankle. With a patched -up team, we survived the first round, beating Boothbay Harbor, but fell before Freedom High School. With six starters plus sev- f eral promising subs back from the 1951 team, we looked forward to a good year. WN , Q X X13 After several weeks of hard prac- tise, the team headed for Boothbay Harbor for our first game. The game was played in a downpour, but after a hard battle, we walked off the muddy field with a 19-0 victory. Our next game was to be with archrival Win- throp. Just before the game, Richard Holbrook, a promising freshman back, was stricken with polio, and the season was canceled because of the risk of others being attacked. For Danny Wilson, Marshall Dulac, Ronald Edge- comb, Eddie Emery, and John McPherson, this was their last year of footballg but with Kent Boothby, Lefty Hill, Jim Burgess, Gary Christie, Bob Gregg, George Hutchings, Powers McLean, Andy Bowman, Robert Bowman, David Marston, Dom Cloutier, James McDonald, Arthur Avore, and Ralph Laine coming back for the 1953 football seasong and with the top coaching of Mr. Daker and Mr. Arbor, Hallowell can look forward to good teams in future years. The next game was with Winthrop. At the half, Hallowell was ahead with a score of 13 to 6. But we fell down in the third quarter and lost the game by four points. The score was 30 to 26. The game everybody enjoys is the alumnae game. We won that by a score of 36 to 24. The next game we lost to Mechanic Falls by a 41 to 27 score. We next defeated Bridge Academy with a score of 64 to 27. Then Richmond defeated us with a score of 64 to 27. The second game with Mechanic Falls we girls lost. The score was 59 to 43. The second game with Winthrop we also lost, this time by a 37 to 30 score. This game was a heartbreaker. We girls were ahead all the way and then lost by only seven points. Members of this year's team were Janet Shea, Betty Charpentier, Anita Rancourt, Anita Bennett, Connie Reed, Carole Rancourt, Patty Weed, Bea- trice Rouillard, Betty Driscoll, Pat Pare, Joyce Tru- man, Carolyn Wilson, Colleen Greeley, and Hazel Gray. Angenett Rich was manager. Nancy Tobey was assistant manager, and Betty Charpentier, cap- tain. We are very grateful to our coaches, Mr. Char- pentier and Mr. Arthur, for their patience and ex- cellent coaching.
