Only a photograph of a building, you say? How mistaken you are! To an outsider, yes, this is just another building - but to the students of Hallettsville High School it means much, much more. The friends made here, the achieve- ments won, the disappointments suffered Qbut wisdom gainedy, and knowledge acquired here have made H.H. S. a very special building. It would be hard to forget the crowded halls. . .the hours wasted during study hall. . . the assemblies. . .the excitement of a close game. . . the bumpy bus rides . . . cramming for tests. . . the mad scramble for the door. . . And so, here is your book. We hope you will remember H.H.S. by it. ln future years, it will serve as a record to recapture in memory the spirit of the fun and work you knew, and the friends you made and kept here in our Alma Mater. . In this dynamic world some things waver and fall, but those days at Halletts ville High will remain in your mind as a brilliant ray when the dull fog of strife is long forgotten. May this book help keep your memory bright. This is The Brahma for nineteen hundred and fifty-nine. Annual Staff It IS the wish of the annual staff that this book, a treasure house of golden memories, may serve as a tie that binds and may recall happy moments of your school days spent at Hallettsville High. On a bright and peaceful morning in September of 1947 Nina Boethel, Carey Boethel, Dolores Botard, Harry Hamilton, Sandy Miller, Doris Nance, Roslyn Renger, Kent Sobotik, Shirley Tesch, Audrey Teltschik, Dorothy Treptow, Arthur Wick, Melvin Zapalac and Johnny Zumwalt were greeted by the smiling face of Miss Alva Timm. Little did they know then that they were the beginning of one of the greatest classes to graduate from Hallettsville High School. In the second grade Gladys Muhlstein, Dick Bennett, and Pat Roth joined the class. Then as the third grade approached us we found Bonnye Whitley and Helen Galetka sitting among us. Our class was then enlarged by seven when Carolyn Appelt, Bobby Cole, Levern Judd, Lynette Klimitchek, Delton Koehn, Hedy McCrumb, and Jane Rich- ards joined us in the 4th grade. We were divided in the 5th grade when David Myers, Charlene Sevcik, Bennie Tesch, Elsie Vavrusa, Wilma Woytek, David Pagel, and Melvin Rother joined us. Our class increased to 36 in the 7th grade after Gaynelle Grones, Mary Mizera, and Sylvester Kutach entered our class. ln the 8th grade Howard Petrich, Milton Rabel, Emith Orsak, Daniel Drozd, and Har- vey Wagner became members of our class. As we came booming into Study Hall in 1956 as Freshmen we had with us James Barborak, Elroy Berger, Vivian Berger, Jimmy Foeh, August Klekar, Dorothy Konechy, Franklin Mozisek, and Eugene Pauler. We might also add that Johnny Zumwalt wore shoes to school for the first time that day. Our class continued with the same number until our Junior year when Moravia mobbed us with Lillian Blahuta, Doyleen Chromcak, Monica Hrncir, Naomi Hrncir, and Jimmie Konvicka. Besides this group Pete Foster, Patricia Janak, Margie Kresta, Alois Machicek, Bernice Mosizek, Dennis Svetlik, Margaret Technik, Bill Tuttle, Kenneth Orsak, and Vernon Obelgoner entered our class. Our Senior year Sue Blanchard and Penny Walthall brought our class to completion with 66 members. We feel our class has made many accomplishments worth mentioning and as a whole. One of our first accomplishments of the whole class was winning the Halloween Queen Race our Freshman year. This was a result of our cooperation and hard work. Our Junior Prom we know will long be remembered as one of the most beau- tiful proms ever staged at the H.H. S. gym. The last activity was our Talent Show consisting of every member of our class. It was a great success and enjoyed by everyone. ' As for individual accomplishments our class has ranked high. SCHOLASTICALLY - One third of the members of our class have a 90 or above average. We have many individuals who have gained recognition in Interscholastic League Events, such as number sense, one-act play, and de- clamation. MUSICALLY - Nineteen members of our class have been members of the band and many have received awards and scholarships. Besides outstanding instrumentalists we have several noted vocalists. ATHLETICALLY - Our class has ranked higher than previous ones. Being well represented in football, track, tennis, baseball, and girls' and boys' basket- ball, many of the teams of which individuals of our class were members have attained goals in District, Regional, and State Quarter Finals. The above accomplishments are not meant to sound boastful, but this is our way of showing our class pride. To our wonderful faculty without whom our history would never be com- plete, we hope that you will remember us as a class displaying leadership, talent, cooperation, determination, and all other qualities that make up an outstanding class , but most of all, may we just be remembered. As we leave this gym tonight, we are leaving behind us many pleasant memories. We hope that as each of us go our separate ways in life, we may be as successful alone, as we were together!
