The Brahmas got off to an early start and scored the first time they had the ball and from there, walked off with the game. HALLETTSVILLE 37 - FLATONIA 0 The Brahmas looked much better against Flatonia than they did in the first outing against Runge. The Brahma line improved considerably on offense, ripping huge holes in the Flatonia line to give their backfield running mates room. The Brahmas had another easy victory, running the score up to 25 to 0 at the half time, where the sec- ond team took over and played most of the last half. HALLETTSVILLE 34 - GOLIAD 0 The Hallettsville High School Brahmas showing power, speed and precision won their third straight non-conference game in Goliad Friday night by the score of 34 to 0. The win kept the Brahma slate clean, with no losses and un-scored on. The Brahmas were not up to par for this game. The first team had to remain in the entire game, to keep their record unblemished. HALLETTSVILLE 13 - SCHULENBURG 21 A scrapping bunch of Hallettsville Brahmas fought the Class AA Schulenburg Shorthorns to a draw until late in the fourth period here Friday night when the visitors sacked up the game by scoring from the one yard line with less than a minute to play. Throughout the entire fracas, the Brahmas held their own with the visitors, and at one time looked as if they would take the lead in the fading minutes of the game. v HALLETTSVILLE 13 LULING 12 The extra point kicked by Billy Litzmann following the first Brahma touchdown proved to be the margin of victory for the Brahmas over the Eagles in the first district game for both teams. However, the Brahmas had to stave off a last quarter drive by the visitors to gain the victory by recovering fumbles late in the game on their own 11 and 14 yard line where the Eagles moved the ball in what appeared to be sure touchdowns. The game was just about as close as the score indicated for the first two periods of play with both teams being about equal in all departments with Hallettsville holding a 13 to 6 halftime margin. However, the Eagles came back'in the second half to play the local eleven off their feet, 'scoring the second touchdown early in the fourth period. The Brahmas then held on to the ball to make the final score 13 to 12. HALLETTSVILLE 7 EAGLE LAKE 14 Both teams scored in the first quarter with the Eagles striking pay dirt first. The first time they took the ball, they marched 68 yards for a score, with Brasher passing to Tallas for the 6 points. John Adkins con- verted. . In the first quarter also, the Brahmas came back fast to tie the score. The Brahmas re- turned the kick-off 60 yards to the Eagle 18 yard line. On the third play from scrim- mage, House took the ball and ran left end for 13 yards and the touchdown. Litzmann kicked the extra point and the score stood '7-7. The second quarter went scoreless, with Eagle Lake making two first downs and Hallettsville making 1. Gerdes and Prit- chard recovered Eagle fumbles and Vachala intercepted a pass, but the Brahmas were unable to capitalize on them. In the third quarter a fumble was costly to the Brahmas. The Eagles recovered the fumble and marched on for the touchdown. In the final quarter the Brahmas marched to the Eagle 18 yard line, while as the whistle blew several minutes later, the Eagles were on the Brahma 1 yard line. HALLETTSVILLE 6 GIDDINGS 41 The Brahmas started out strong against Giddings, but seemed to fall apart as the game continued and they lost the District Conference. In the first quarter the Brahmas marched 80 yards for their touchdown, with Vachala going over for short yardage and 6 points. Try for extra point failed, and first period, score stood 6-6. During the first period, however, the Brahmas marched to the Giddings 8 yard line only to lose the ball on downs. The Brahmas ran up a large number of first downs when they had the ball, totaling 18 first downs to 16 for Giddings. The Brahmas muffed scoring chances by fumbling. At the end of the second quarter Jeannette Kocian and Gaynelle Schroeder were crown- ed Homecoming Queen, and Football Sweet- heart, respectively. Immediately following the game the players, ex-students, and students met at the Recreation Hall for a Homecoming Dance. The music was furnished by Jurecka's Orch estra . HALLETTSVILLE 39 SMITHVILLE O The Brahmas took on early season form to defeat the Smithville Tigers 39 to 0. During the first period neither team was able to reach pay dirt, although the Tigers threatened with two consecutive penetra- tions which took them to the Brahma 10 yard line each time. Early in the second quarter the Brahmas started a drive from the 50 yard line. Short passes, nice blocking and running got the ball to the Tiger 4 yard line. Gerdes then went over for the, counter, and Litzmann's kick was good. The score stood 7 - 0. Again in the second quarter the Brahmas held the Tigers to no gain and took- over on their own 36. A pass from Jones to Rode was good for 35 yards, and then House swept end for the touchdown. The final score of the quarter saw Vacha- la break loose behind beautiful blocking for a '70 yard sprint and 6 points. The halftime score stood 20-0. The Brahmas scored once in the third quarter. This score was set up by a 56 yard run by House. The Brahmas opened up again in the fourth quarter to score 13 more points and make the final score 39-0. HALLETTSVILLE -'7 BASTROP 27 The Brahmas met a strong Bastrop team in Bastrop, and after staging a battle with the district champions came home on the short end of a 27 -7 score. The Brahmas fought the Bastrop eleven until the final whistle, but end runs by the fleet Bastrop backs were harmful to the Brahma cause. The Brahma forward wall played an ex- cellent game, holding the Bears in check in their crashes up the middle, forcing the Bastrop eleven to go wide around end for their win. The Bears scored 7 points in the first quarter, and held a 7-0 lead at the end of the period. They added '7 more points in the second quarter and the score at halftime was 14-0. In the third quarter Bastrop scored again, but the Brahmas opened up for '7 points also in this quarter. Driving to the Bastrop sec- ond yard line on passes and then over for 6 points. Litzmann kicked the extra point. Bastrop scored their final touchdown in the last quarter. The Brahmas, throughout the game, threatened several times but were able to reach pay dirt only once. HALLETTSVILLE 48 WEIMAR 0 The Brahmas were not to be denied vic- tory at Weimar in the final game of the season, and when the final whistle sounded the Brahmas had run up an impressive 48- 0 score. As a climax to the season, senior boys on the Brahma squad played their best game of the year, and it was behind per- fect blocking by the linemen that the ball carriers were able to cross the Wildcat goal line almost at will after the first quarter. While the Brahma regulars had a field day, due credit must also go to the re- serves who played most of the final half, and scored twice to give local fans a pre- view of what might be expected in 1955. The statistics on the game also reflected the superiority of the Brahmas over the Wildcats. In first downs Hallettsville held a 15 to 5 margin, and in total yards gam- ed by passing and rushing, Hallettsville massed a total of 403 yards to the Wildcats 111. 1 Y 1 ' 1 1 . 1 DENNIS BARBAROK FLORENCE FOSTER GIBBO GERDES Fullback Guard Fullback ' Captain RALPH IONES WALLACE JONES HENRY KALICH Quarterback Quarterback Halfback BILLY LITZMANN LEONARD MAREK JACK MOORE End End Tackle Captain DENNIS RISKE 'P DA VID RODE HOWARD ROTHER Tackle End Tackle DANIEL GRONES MIKE HOUSE JIMMY JAHN Guard Halfback Center CARL KLIMITCHEK THOMAS KOCIAN EARL KOEHN Halfback Tackle Guard GEORGE ORSAK JAMES PARR JACK PRITCHARD Guard Guard Center HOWARD SPIES CHARLES STRAUSS JERRY VACHALA Tackle - End Halfback ygasfefgaf THE 1955 BRAHMA A TEAM Managefs Coach EDWARD MCCRUMB BILL THOMPSON WAYNE TOLBERT Ufe 1955 yjrafmcz csyzzaof January January A January January February February February January January January January F ebruary F ebruary SCHEDULE HOME GAMES 4th 6th 20th 21st 3rd 11th 19th 11th 18th 25th 28th 8th 15th GA MES A WAY Luling Shiner Bastrop Weimar Eagle Lake Smithville Giddings Eagle Lake Smithville Giddings Luling Bastrop Weimar C17 ufo grazing .9 I l L F gif 7 ygczsfefgaf 1955 SQUAD Coach MILDRED LEHMANN Manager MARY GENE DEVALL ll 77 xr Q7 Ueam JOYCE KOLOS- - MARY EILERS- - - VIVIAN PETRICH- - - SHIRLEY WINKLER- - LAVERNE MUHLSTEIN- - DOROTHY NANCE- - - - Guard - - Guard - - Guard Forward-Guard - - - - Forward - - Forward QS, yearn JUDY GERDES ----- Forward DELORES DORNAK- - - - Guard LUCILLE LUDWIG- - - - Guard MARILYN GRONES ---- - Guard MARY EDNA STOKELY- - - - Guard SANDRA OLSOVSKY- - - Guard SHIRLEY SEVCIK ---- - - Guard GAYNELLE SCHROEDER - Guard MARCELLE SCHROEDER- - - - -Forward FRANCES DOLEZAL- - - Guard HELEN STEPANEK- - - Forward NANCY MCNABB ---- - - Forward GLADYS BIERSDORFER- Forward MILDRED HOLLY ---- - - Guard DOLORIS KAHANEK- - -Guard GLA DYS BIERSDORFER MILDRED HOLLY LA VERNE MUHLSTEIN G VIVIAN PETRICH M ARY I O EILERS JOYCE KOLOS DOROTHY NANCE SHIRLEY WINKLH2 921467 Uokygaf First row: Betsey Vyvial, Annette Kocian, Jeannette Kocian, Lucille Ludwig.
