Devil's freshman team develops talents over the season Freshman foorboll ar Hall was always a big job. Srudenrs from several feeder schools were joined rogerher for rhe firsr rime in an organized practice. Sond-lor heroes soon became swearing bodies on rhe field. Run! Run! Gor ro ger you guys in shape! became Coach Doroski's barrle cry. Soon lessons in bkxking ond rackling began ro pay dividends. The primary goal for Coaches Doroski and Decker was ro devetope rhe row ralenr or hand. A schedule rhor hod proved ro be rough in rhe pasr again faced rhe Red and Whire. The inexperience showed as Kewonee seemed ro run pasr everyone in a 48-6 romp. Regrouping, rhe Demons bear rhe MDR JV’s 28-14 Several bright spots were noted on both offense ond defense. Men-dora and Rock Falls had ro play hard afrer close firsr halves ro bear rhe Devils 20-0 and 30-0. A group of freshmen were elevored ro rhe sophomore ream and did nor practice as much wirh rhe freshmen. This presented some problems for Coach Ooroski's ream. The Dig Red come bock wirh a 40-0 win over Amboy ond a 12-12 rie with a rough Rochelle ream. The season dosed wirh a loss ro Princeton. Highlighting rhe season were rhe electrifying runs of Jeff Dird ond Gory Orlondi as rhe Demons would come bock from adverse siruarions. The scorebook showed a record of 2-4-1. This connor, however show rhe things learned Throughout rhe year. De velopemenr was rhe big rhing ro happen. This band of underdassmen will help ro de-velope rhe Dig Red Machine down rhe rood several years. Fdtowmg rhe block of Mike Bickerr. Mark Ramey runs o 33 Wasr ogonsr Amboy Leaping above rhe defender. Demons compile record 11-4 season; Nimee holds school records for girls The 1984 season was one of ups and downs. Before rhe srarr of rhe season, rhe ream losr rheir number one runner by rrons-fer The loss of other runners for various reasons throughout rhe year caused rhe Demons to loose rheir momentum. Despire rhese problems, rhe running Bed Devils compiled an 11-4 season This ser a school record for rhe most number of wins in a single season. Steve Schwarring was given rhe honor of being selected ro rhe all-conference ream. The invirorional finishes were nor whar had been onridpared, bur considering rhe problems encountered made accepting defear o lirrle easier. Wirh bur one senior Kenr Moe Herrmann leaving rhe squad, things certainly looked good for 1985. The return of Rich Savirch, Doug Bivaro, Mark Williams, Sreve Sch warring, and Neil Perzel gave rhe Bed Devils a solid nudeus for rhe upcoming seasons. The frosh-soph ream showed marked improvement throughout rhe year and will be rough ro handle in 1985. Mike Ellis, Bob Lehn, Jim Srebbins, Andy Ajsrer, and Mon-Vowels worked hard all year in developing rheir skill and technique. High hopes were anricipared for nexr year's cross counrry season. Running for rhe Vorsiry, Ned Perzel purs forth his bey effort ogomy Rochelle Runners get on rheir mork, ger ser, and rake off for rhe start of o sophomore run in o duel wirh Rock Falk The srarr of a comperirive girls' program in cross counrry characterized rhe '84 season Short on numbers, rhe girls were nor able ro ream score in meers. Individually, though, rhey had opportunities ro shine. Jennifer Nimee had an outstanding year. She became rhe firsr girl in Hall's hisrory ro make all-conference. In regional competition, Jennifer placed 5rh overall and 2nd individually Advancing ro sectionals, she finished 36rh overall our of 106 conresranrs. Individually, she placed 10th. Jennifer also holds every school record in disronce events ar Hall. This female arhlere recorded a rime of 15:21 for rhe 2.5 mile course and a rime of 13 48 for rhe 2.1 mile run, showing a personal record best in her finishes and ending a rerrific running career or Hall. 20 CROSS COUNTRY
