Bogota sends Hall H.S. a student; climate is on adjustment for Vivian Directly off of a Columbio-boorded plane, Vivian Paz, Hall's foreign exchange srudenr, rook ro our American speaking counrry as a challenge. Having taken Spanish and English here or Hall, she hoped ro berrer her language and ro adapt berrer ro ours. Upon observing Spring Valley, ir musr hove been seen as a speck of dust in comparison ro her hometown, Bogora, rhe capital of Columbia, wirh a population of ap-proximorley four million. Among differences in rhe countries is dimare. From rhe region in which Vivian lives, ir is much warmer rhan rhar of an October temperature here. On many days while we were wearing our jackets and enjoying rhe days before Jock Frosr come, Vivian was found entering dosses well-equipped wirh mirrens and a scarf wrapped snuggly around her neck. Her visit here also gave her o special memory — rhe firsr snow she hod ever seen. Although Vivian was a senior and 18 years old, her return ro Bogora would find her orrending another year in her high school due ro differences in rhe school systems. Afrer graduating, she planned ro follow in her parent's foorsreps and srudy medicine or dentistry. In Columbia she lives wirh her parents, Dr. Abraham E Paz Cano ond Dr. Dhuvis C. Amador de Paz, her brother. Jose, and her Pekinese dog, Pinky. When she's nor or home, she's usually wirh her friends at rhe theatre, swimming, or enjoying rhe tranquillity of a picnic. During her stay, our visitor lived in rhe residence of Greg and Cathy McCook. There she gained an American brother ond sister, Casey and Tracy. Spore rime here was usually spent at parries, school dances, rhe moll, or wirh friends. Vivian was caught in a whirl of activities during Homecoming week. Her spirit, as oH spirit, gave Homecoming a boost. She rode on and helped decorate rhe senior float which read, Rod rhe Rodgers. To end Homecoming week, Vivian and her friends danced up a storm at rhe Homecoming dance. A rime musr come for all good things ro end, and Vivian was whisked away ro Columbia, a four-hour ride in a jet wirh one stop in Miami. Before her departure, a word of comfort come from Vivian, Columbia is a very prer ry place. Everyone can come visit me and stay in my house!
