Torri Giacometti Reign Over Heaven Surrounded by the deep, drifted snow the junior class began preparation for the 1979 prom. The plans seemed to go smoothly until a notice from the band stated that they would not be able to appear. A search for a new group was started, but March was a hard time to find a good band for the prom. After many anxious days the “A Maizen Bleu” was hired. Favors and streamers were ordered. Prom time was approaching fast, dates were made, dresses were bought and tuxes were fitted. The prom committees were busy transforming the Rec Room of the Kaskaskia Hotel into a world ol paradise. Stars and metalic streamers hung from the ceiling and doors, and until finally everythin? was readv The hour of eight finally arrived, ana Gary Martinkus began to announce the couples as they entered the ballroom. Many of the couples seemed to dance every dance, others sat and quietly talked with friends. Everyone enjoyed the music. The moment everyone awaited came as Trny Torri and Jill Giacometti were crowned king and queen of “Too Much Heaven”. Celeste Kusck and Mary Lehman were selected as the attendants. All too soon the night came to an end as retired to other places and activities. Sunday found picnics the order of the day, despite the rainy day. Soon the enchanted weekend came to an end. Breaking away from the excitement. Carmen Frund repins Gary Perino's boutonniere. Leafing through her prom booklet, Lynctte Ellis recites the poem dedicated to the senior class to Ted Urbanski. 26 Prom

Six Rate Valedictorian Honor Highlighting the spring activities was the National Honor Society assembly. A change in format found society members taking charge of the program instead of college students. Nineteen students, (twelve seniors and seven juniors,) were inducted into the National Honor Society on May 7. The awards assembly on May 18 honored students at Hall who had shown leadership or had won academic awards. Lynn Bochtler, Sue Filippini, Donna Palmieri, Barb Prokup, Jean Schultz, and Brian Victor with perfect grades, were chosen co-valedictorians. John McDonald was selected as salutatorian. Eight students were announced as Illinois State Scholarship Commission Merit award winners and all graduates with a 4.5 or higher grade point average were also honored. Rich West was selected outstanding leader, while Peggy Cassiday Memorial Citizen award went to John Matthews and Carlene Scheri. Mr. Westrum congratulated Pam Podobinski, Bernice D. Frankey Memorial Scholarship winner, and the eighteen Trovillo Scholarship winners. After the announcing other awards for clubs, school areas, and attendance, the annual tradition of ending the assembly began once more. President Rich West passed the torch to the president of the class of 1980, Lisa Lunn, and led the seniors from the auditorium. New school leader, Lisa Lunn watched as her junior class-mates took the newly vacated seats. The assembly was ended, but the traditions of Hall continued. Rich West receives congratulations from Mr. McNulty for receiving the School Leadership Award. Juanita Londono expresses thanks to the students and teachers of Hall for all they have done to make her stay her a pleasant one. Honors 25
