Drama Club Stages Different Production Hall High School Drama Club conceived a unique presentation for this year’s spring musical. The production was entitled “Backstage on Broadway” — a tribute to Broadway’s best musicals. The cast was composed of thirty-eight students, and included members of all classes, freshmen through senior. Paul Sobin arranged the technical aspects of the play, while Rich West directed the entire cast. Choreographic designs were composed by Linda Causa and Theresa Donna. The show included solos, dance routines, and all cast members. The entire production, which was organized by the drama club advisor Miss Barb Kotte, contained songs from such musicals as: Annie Get Your Gun, Cabaret, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Man of La Mancha, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver, West Side Story, A Little Night Music, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, and A Chorus Line. Community response was excellent, and the project was enjoyed by all. The production revealed the many areas of talents at Hall High School, and it demonstrated to everyone what can be achieved with effort, cooperation, and dedication. Wishing for riches, Brian Victor describes his new life style. Girl dancers portraying nurses, sing “I’m gonna wash that man right out of my hair” from the movie “South Pacific”. Six Rate Valedictorian Honor Highlighting the spring activities was the National Honor Society assembly. A change in format found society members taking charge of the program instead of college students. Nineteen students, (twelve seniors and seven juniors,) were inducted into the National Honor Society on May 7. The awards assembly on May 18 honored students at Hall who had shown leadership or had won academic awards. Lynn Bochtler, Sue Filippini, Donna Palmieri, Barb Prokup, Jean Schultz, and Brian Victor with perfect grades, were chosen co-valedictorians. John McDonald was selected as salutatorian. Eight students were announced as Illinois State Scholarship Commission Merit award winners and all graduates with a 4.5 or higher grade point average were also honored. Rich West was selected outstanding leader, while Peggy Cassiday Memorial Citizen award went to John Matthews and Carlene Scheri. Mr. Westrum congratulated Pam Podobinski, Bernice D. Frankey Memorial Scholarship winner, and the eighteen Trovillo Scholarship winners. After the announcing other awards for clubs, school areas, and attendance, the annual tradition of ending the assembly began once more. President Rich West passed the torch to the president of the class of 1980, Lisa Lunn, and led the seniors from the auditorium. New school leader, Lisa Lunn watched as her junior class-mates took the newly vacated seats. The assembly was ended, but the traditions of Hall continued. Rich West receives congratulations from Mr. McNulty for receiving the School Leadership Award. Juanita Londono expresses thanks to the students and teachers of Hall for all they have done to make her stay her a pleasant one. Honors 25
