Monty Moreno hurriedly scarfs a taco in anticipation of other culinary delights. Food Mania Lunch hour was the mid-day time when one could really talk with his friends while eating. The open campus program allowed one to eat in the cafeteria or eat off campus. For those who ate in the cafeteria, the big question was, “What’s on a bun today?” The pizza and scroodles were a popular hit with most. The burritos and tacos, which were newly added to the menu, gave the school a new taste. Others brown bagged their lunch by bringing salami, peanut butter, fish, and other sandwiches, and mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies for their dessert. Those who chose lunch outside the cafeteria, often walked down to the taco stand for tacos, Antonino’s for a sandwich, or to Mimi’s for a hot dog or ice cream during the fall and spring months. Gym Transferred Into Dog Patch One morning signs were hanging from what seemed like every wall proclaiming Saturday, December 9, 1978, “Sadie Hawkins Day”. The sophomore’s yearly event was on the way to becoming a reality. After eight weeks in preparation the class was ready. Tradition has that girls ask boys for dates to this dance. A firm commitment was the signal of a shopping spree trying to find that special matched shirt. Saturday finally arrived and a handful of faithful classmates arrived to decorated the gym jnder the watchful eyes of Mrs. Kusek and Mrs. Pienta. Late in the day the final prop was set, the final streamer taped. The clock had not yet reached eight p.m. when couples began arriving. Touring Dogpatch, the couples returned to the lobby to have the aithful event recorded by Mr. Young. Soon the lobby was overflowing with people, and the strains of the “Foggy River Band” began to fill the gym. Couples could be found sitting and listening to the music. The more courageous began to dance and soon the floor became crowded. The evening wore on, climaxing with the crowning of the King, Jeff Flemming and Queen, Christie Golgin. The royal couple crowned, the crowd began to thin. The girls had agreed to feed their prize catch. The night’s activities over, couples returned to the hustle and activity of the real world. The 1978 sadie was over, and had become just a memory Toni Claggett casts her vote for Daisy Mac and Lil 'Abner. The “Foggy River Band provided an enjoyable night of music for the residents of Dog Patch. 18 Sadie
