Director The seventy-piece Hall hand has scored another outstanding year Under the capable direction of Mr, Richard A. Fling. The group, one of the finest performing bands Hall has had, presented three concerts this year. Their hrst public appearance was before the teachers ot the county at the Bureau County Teachers' Institute held in the Princeton High School auditorium on February 8, 1952. The group presented excellent winter and spring concerts in the Hall High auditorium on March 25, 1952, and on May 14, 1952 respectively. All three concerts presented a wide range ot musical selections and were enthusiastically received. This group of young musicians has the ability to read music well, and they reached the peak in reading when they played such dificult selections as Franz Shubert's Unt1nished Symphony , Gomez' El Guaranyn, Aram Kachiturian's Three Dances from the Gayne Ballet , and Whitney's River Jordan , a fantasy on Negro Sprituals, to mention but a few. A number of t1ne musicians will be lost through graduation, however, a large group that began high school band work this year will be back as experienced players, Mr. Fling and the students look ahead to another year of success. 4.1 QL. Sponsor The Future Farmers of America have had another successful year. The club has made money by farming the school ground which has been set aside for the club's use and by selling F. F. A. pencils. The group had fifteen varieties of oats the past year and six acres of alfalfa. An oxygen-acetylene welder has been aded to the department for the use of learned boys in the ag. boys, and it has certainly been appreciated by all those who have to use it. The arc welding by the ag. lll boys has proved very useful. The the first year shop part of ag. I were kept busy making hog houses, pig ringing crate, show box, lawn chair, and fruit shelf. Many repair iobs were done. The Vocational Agriculture Department sponsored two ten-week adult evening classes for farmers during the past winter. One class was on arc-welding, and the other was on a variety of subiects. The adult work seems to be a real service by our ag. department. The ag department has a group of fifteen prominent farmers who have an interest in the betterment of agriculture in our community. This group of farmers is known as the Agriculture Advisory Council. They meet once a month to talk over problems and activities of our ag. department, and they make recommenda- tions on how to improve upon the workings of our department. Their efforts and time are certainly appreciated. This years' Red Devils, outstanding in the backtield and in the line, beat Joliet, the champions ot the Big Eight and also routed undefeated Sterling. The anti- climax of the season was the defeat of Dixon 55-14 by the second and third stringers hungry for victory. The enviable record was eight wins against one loss. Excellent team spirit, fine cooperation, and a strong determination to win on the part of each and every team member made the 1951-52 Red Devils a power house in the conference. He kicked ll straight extra points, and 8 of those were at Dixon where the Red and White won 56 to l4. Ken was selected on the first team of the North Central and won honorable mention on the all- state team. James Troglio Jim, without a doubt, is one of Hall's greatest players in its history of football. Moco was the main reason for the enviable 8-1 record this year. A senior, playing the position of fullback, he was terrific on offense. He scored l32 points in 22 touchdowns rating third in the state. He gained over a thousand yards. Good both on defense and offense, he was also a good punter. Selected on the first string of three all-state teams and the North Central, he won wide acclaim. Jim was also winner of the Cassiday Most Valuable Player Award. Robert Wenzel Goofy , a senior, has finished his second year of varsity football playing a halfback position. A hard worker in practice, he developed into a good offensive halfback, a good punter, and a good kick-off man. One of the Red Devils' fine perfor- mers he was an honorable mention on the all-state selections Gerald Pomatto Jerry, playing both quarterback and halfback on the Hall eleven is another senior who finished his second year as a varsity man. He was an excellent quarterback, very good at bootleg plays, and a good passer. A fine runner on offense his defensive play was good, too, because he intercepted a number of passes which led to scores. Frank Wright Frankie, the smallest man on the team was a real threat .Row Two: Jim Martinkus, senior guard, Bob Blum, senior end, George Buckman, senior center, John Muzzarlli, senior tackle and guard, Jim Wber, iunior tackle. in every game. Playing the halfback position, Frankie was a good break-away runner who pounded out yardage. He is a junior, therefore ,he will be back next year to spark the team to victory. He should be outstanding. Jim Martinkus Scum , a senior, played guard and was very good both on defense and offense. A two year varsity man he was an all-conference selection as guard, and he also received honorable mention on the all-state team. Bob Blum Pinhead , a senior, proved to be one of the finest ends to come out of Hall Township. Playing end, he was great on offense as well as defense. When the chips were down, it was Bob's fine catching which brought Hall closer to victory. Pinhead was liked by all, for he was the team's entertainer H-the morale builder of the team. John Muuarelli Ace , another senior, proved to be one of the standout linemen of the team. A transfer from St. Bede his iunior year, he solved one of coach Nesti's problems. An outstanding offensive and defensive player Ace's crashing tackles and vicious blocks made his opponents fear him. He was an honorable mention on all-state selections, Jim Weber Sunny , a lunior was one of the rugged seven in the front line which held six of Hall's nine opponents ssoreless. Jim was a good guard and will probably play tackle next year. Next year should be a big year for him. George Buckman George, a senior center, was one of the standouts in the line this year. His ability to tackle with crushing power along with his knack for taking his opponent out of a play with clean blocking made him one of the few players to play both offense and defense. His all-around aggressiveness and eagerness to play made him one of the finest centers Hall has had and he would make very good college material. Cliff Peart Peart, only a sophomore, was terrific on defense as a tackle. His incessant chatter caused no end of fun among his teammates. Next year Cliff will hold down an end spot. He should be great. Jim Smoode Old Pug , a junior, played both center and guard this year, and he did a good iob at both. Next year he will hold down a guard position, and we look ahead to some outstanding work from him. Dale Pienta Dale, who played quarterback on the Hall eleven is a iunior. He was a good line backer this year, and he was excellent in diagnosing defensive pass plays. He played brilliantly on both offense and defense, and next year, as quarterback, Dale should be tops . Ernie Piuamiglio Ernie, a iunior playing halfback, was a good offensive guard. Great things were expected of him next season, but he ioined the U. S. Air Force. Jack Savio Jack began the season playing a tackle position, however, an iniury prevented him from playing all the football he would have liked. Since he is a iunior, he should be a regular next year, playing defensive fullback, Outstanding in scholar- ship, Jack was the athlete who won the Father Garrahan Award which is awarded each year to the athlete who excels in scholarship. Top Row: Cliff Peart, sophomore guard, Jim Smoode, iunior center, Dale Pienta, iunior quarterback, Ernie Pizzamiglio, iunior guard, Jack Savio, iunior guard. Bottom Row: Thomas Schweickert, senior quarterback, Ron Tom Schweickert Tom, a senior, was a reserve quarterback who has been a hard worker. He saw some action in the Dixon game. Ron Yattoni Ron, a senior, was a fine reserve halfback. He saw qulto a bit of action, especially on defense, and was instrumental in the 54-lA win over Dixon by intercepting quite a number of passes. Rich Mariani Nozzle was another reserve player. He played the quarterback spot and proved himself quite good. A great competitor, he saw action in a few garnes. Clyde Hoffert Clyde, a varsity reserve player for two years, is a senior. Clyde played the halfback position. He, too, saw action in the Dixon game. Jim Baum Jim, a iunior, in his first year of football, gained a berth on the varsity. He played the tackle spot. Though he was in- experienced, he showed great promise. He should show un- limited power next year. The remaining reserves were Bill Vickery, senior fullback, Eugene Mercier, junior guard and fullback, Joe Cinotto, sophomore center, Gerald Stuart, junior end, Jack Anderson, junior utility man, John Guynn, junior back, Frank Haney, iunior guard, Stanley Podobinski, iunior tackle, John Quinn, senior tackle, Vernon Golden, senior end.. All of these boys came out for practice, worked hard, and were a great help to the team.
