The finished page in the yearbook disguises the hours of planning and prodding involved in the process. Designing layouts, writing copy to fit precise spaces, cropping photographs, designing graphics, and presenting all of the efforts in a form understandable to the printer presented a challenge in the midst of daily routines. Un- like most schools, the Yearbook Staff worked as an extracurricular force, not a classroom experience. lood, Sweat, and Tears Pressure for perfection Concerned staffers and the adviser labored after school, during weekends, and even on student holidays. Weeks prior to the deadline initiated hours of overtime and sometimes delivered stress and irritable feelings. The goal of a contemporary yearbook became the challenge ofa staff of nineteen. Frightening to consider, thirteen staffers were first-year members. A summer workshop at High Point College in- itiated eighteen ofthe members to the shock that the yearbook work is more work than fun. Section editors attended a workshop in Richmond in September. just when we thought we could sit down and catch our breath, the next deadline stared us in the face, ex- pressed the sentiments of Ann Morris and involved staf members. THE ROGER ROAST captivates the student body on SGA Election Day. Les Abshire, Walt Burgwyn, and Will Pleasant were among panel members who boasted of the qualities of presidential candidate Roger jenkins. Heavil involved, some students felt CLUBBED TO DEATH When yearbook deadlines arrived, the realization of how in- volved some students were became clear. Other activities, sometimes clubs and sometimes athletics and sometimes academics, crept into the battle for time. The game was a survival of the fittest. AWARENESS OF BLESSINGS is the subject of Roger jenkins' address to close the Thanksgiving assembly, which in- cluded various participants. THE LONG HOURS of the Hunter Yearbook Workshop and the dorm life of High Point College explain Walt Burgwyn's exhaustion as he waits to travel for a tour of Hunter Publishing Company in Winston-Salem. 92 EI Student Involvement
