Look ho Came In umber One continued After a narrow loss to a red-hot Albemarle team at Elizabeth City, the team headed into the heart of the conference race. Beginning 0- 1, the boys rallied to win the remaining eleven conference match-ups and compiled an 11-1 conference championship record and a 15-2 overall record. Two keys to the title were a double- overtime win over Hobgood and a twenty-two-point smashing of Enfield there. Those back-to-back wins answered all questions and erased any doubts. jeff Green at- tributed the team's success to working as a team and never giv- ing up. Avenging both early- season losses, the team concluded TRAPPING DEFENSE keys another con- ference victory. Tommy Wright cornered Tarboro-Edgecombe's Mike Hale. TEAM MEMBERS. The defeat forced a playoff game to determine the rep- resentative for the state tourna- ment. At Halifax, Enfield met the 1 76 EI Boys' Basketball true champion as the Vikings sailed to a 47-30 victory. In the N.C. Inde- pendent Schools Division A Tournament, the Vikings muscled a 63-61 overtime win from Wall: O'Neal and upended Vance 53- to advance to the state title gan Defending champion High Po Wesleyan oversized and out powered the Vikes 69-39. Conch ing with a 19-4 record, the Vikir claimed second in the state 1 somehow to many they were than next to number one.
