The Sea on as a HIT. The baseball team started 'ice slightly discouraged at the doubleheader season. Coach commented, It is hard to that fighting edge after you just walked away with a victory. Halifax proved to be able to keep that fighting edge and found themselves leading 4-1 in the divisi- onal championship game at Chowan College. Unfortunately, Hobgood came back and scored five runs to win the game. Back in SWING of hing 7, 4 x. Beginning the 1985 softball season with a large group of talented players, the Lady Vikings looked forward to a strong finish in the Carolina Academies Con- ference. Coached by Mr. Danny Hinnant, the Lady Vikings coasted to a first-place finish by going un- defeated in the conference. With this fine finish the Lady Vikings earned a berth in the district playoffs. The Lady Vikings defeated N.E.W. in the first round of the playoffs and advanced to the finals against con- ference foe Enfield Academy. The Lady Vikings lost to Enfield in a heartbreaking 14-13 game that was anybody's game, according to Coach Danny Hinnant. The leadership from the upperclas- smen definitely contributed to the successful seasonf' commented Coach Hinnant. The Lady Vikings faced new rule changes, which included five- inning doubleheaders once a week. The Vikettes adjusted and matured as a team throughout the season. This maturity led to the selection of Lori Edwards, Anna Bass, Tina Lassiter, jill Dickens, and Martha Wilson to the all- conference team.
