There were eleven charter members. Mrs. Alma Barber and Mrs. Willene Hilton were the first sponsors. The F.T.A. goals were to interest students in becom- ing teachers, to explore the teaching field, to cultivate qualities of leadership, character, and scholarship among students, and to render service to the school and the community. Some of the main F.T.A. projects during 1 959- ' 60 were keeping the grammar school office, sponsoring American Education Week and Teacher Career Week, sponsoring a Christmas safety contest, giving coffees for the teachers, preparing boxes of food, clothing, and toys for needy families, and buying glasses for a girl whose home was destroyed. 38 rs N ' HfM FIRST ROW: Carolyn Preston, Reba Crumpton, Nancy Lovvorn, Margaret Stewart, Jeanette Mize, Linda Eason, Sandra Foster, Ethelwyn Dobbs, Cheryl Fortenberry, and Brenda Simmons.
