Class H :story Exerythmg 1n the world had a beglnmng and we the glass of 1950 began our Journey through school rn September 1938 Most of us w111 remember that year because of the terrxble devastatmg hurricane This IS our hmstory wluch probably w1ll not be written on the sands of t1me but to us It means twelve years of earnest study There were thxrteen pupmls when we began attendlng school some at Pmlot Groxe and some at the Gleasondale School At the beglnmng of the thxrd grade all students were enrolled at Gleasondale After four years at Gleasondale we entered jumor Hmgh School wh1ch was qmte a thrxll for most of us Durmg thls t1me our number had xncreased and by the txme we were to graduate from the exghth grade there were twenty fwe members Whmle mn the eighth grade we welcomed Wxllxam Hmbbard who remamed a classmate through Hlgh School Under the superv1s1on of Mrs Fletcher we sponsored a successful dance and enjoyed a class roller skatlng party at Lyonhurst Next came I-hgh School and what looked l1ke four years of hard Work But as we look back we remember the fun we have had along wlth the work Our entry xnto Hlgh School found us mlnus Dor1s Standlsh Alan Thompson and Lorra1ne jones but we added Donald Colleton to our number At the start of the Sophomore Year we lost Donald Thompson and Thomas Salmon and durlng the year Edward Sleeper and W11l1am Colleton left One project of the Sophomore Year was that of work1ng to 1ncrease the treasury Vt hen we returned to the jumor Class 1n the fall we found a new teacher 'vlrs Ferguson who had replaced Mtss GT1fflthS also Mr Hartley who had taken Mr Creelman s pos1t1on as prmnclpal VS e started our junlor Year mmus Robert Croft Barbara Rich Mabel Pr1est and Betty Lou Stow But we had the prlvilege of welcomumg two new members Joanne Hartley and john jokmen A successful jumor Prom held tn May and an enjoyable class trlp to Canobme Lake were two hlghllghts of the year s actlvltles lso much thought was gwen to the selection of a class r1ng We were happy to send to Lmttleton three members of th1s class to take part ln the pu hc speakmng contest between Harvard Lxttleton and Stow They were joan Annett Dorrance I eard and Ruth Stxles Dorrance Leard succeeded 1n wrnmng second prrze for boys The opemng of the Semor Year found us mlnus Rxchard Trurnpolt and we were sorry to lose john jokmen soon afterwards Along w1th the necessary busmess connected wmth graduatmg was that of selectmg a class photographer Hay mg made our cho1ce at last we motored to Boston where we comb1ned pleasure wxth busmness On December 15 and 16 under the dlrectlon of Mrs Ferguson we pre sented the Semor play entxtled Everybody s Crazy We sponsored two successful dances durlng the flrst half of the year V. e trust that future classes may beneht greatly as a lesult of the add1t1onal rooms at Hale Hxgh the constructlon of whxch d1stracted our attentxon from time to tlme Z0 l I 1 1 , . Elalne Drechsler had made a lovely l1ttle housewmfe As she was well along the road to matrunony before she left school I was not surprmsed to learn th1s She had one slde 11ne raxsmg ch1ckens john Makey had become a dress deslgner He was famous the world over Even Parts dressmakers came to hls exclusive shop on Fifth Avenue for advlce john had declared Jvomen s dresses should be ten mches from the ground He was protected by bodyvuards aga1nst the majorlty of men who dxsagreed wmth h1m V1rg1n1a D1P1etro had won the Irmsh Sweepstakes and was spend1ng her entxre t1me tourmg the country She had retlred 1n 1959 from bemg the Number I basket ball player 1n the Umted States It was sa1d that Glnny bemg small moved around so qulckly and unexpectedly among the players that they d1dn t have a chance to see her Vhlham Hmbbard had succeeded ln maklng h1s l1fe worth whlle He had honed to bulld a transoceanlc brldge from New York Cmty to South Hampton England B111 was certaln that he would become a c1v1l engineer ll ell he nearly made 1t He had already bullt a brxdge across Boston Common Pond for chlldren only At each end there had been erected a small ctty for klds only The whole ldea had been B111 s and had made for hmm a small fortune from the Cmty of Boston I thought Joanne Hartley had studled nursing as I remembered Something must have changed her rnlnd for she had become a vetermarlan I suppose It s 1n the same llne of work Her hospltal was located behmd her home She had remodeled those bulldmgs on the h1ll mto beaut1ful kennels Durlng Joanne s tra1n1ng she had used poor Dodo as her patlent He became so used to the bandages and spllnts that wlthout them he went hmpmg around the house Wonder of wonders' You remember Donny Colleton s love for makmg ox er cars Donny had combmed a Plymouth wxth a Chevy and named mt the Colleton Speclal He had sold m11l1ons of these cars and had bu1lt a plant twlce as blg as any automoblle factory ever constructed The car was equmpped w1th Jet propulsion and would go ZOO m1les an hour on the new h1ghways Senorlta Ellzabeth Derby better known as Betsy had taken an adn anced course mn Spanlsh and was now the Amerlcan envoy to Spaln She spoke Spamsh 90m better than she dld her own language In Spam she had met a handsome Spamard and rumor had It that there mlght be weddlng bells As the last pmcture In the crystal ball faded from vxew I reallzed that I had been afforded a ghmpse xnto the future l1ves of all my classmates of the class of 1950 at Hale H1gh School I walked away from the fortuneteller wxth a sigh of rel1ef for I was fully convmced that my classmates had successful In es ahead of them Dont you agree? joan 'Xnnett 19 I C I . . . , O . . . . . . . . . . 1 . , , 1 I I . , , . , . 1 I v , . . what an eligible bachelor he made!
