During the 1961-1962 school year the Nathan Hale Student Council sponsored many activities. The biggest of these activities was hosting the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils, annual convention. This convention, held at Hale November 30 through December 2, was attended by approximately 500 delegates and sponsors from student councils all over the state. Nathan Hale had been elected the O.A.S.C. Secretary-Host school at the previous convention. ln the spring of 1961, Suzanne Sanders was elected to the office of state secretary, and Wally Love was elected state treasurer. Hosting the convention involved placing the 400 delegates in the homes of Rangers, making motel accommodations for the sponsors, collecting souvenirs from various commercial interprises for the guests, arranging for the lunches and dinners for the delegates which included a banquet and ball, arranging transportation in Tulsa for delegates and planning the discussion groups and general assemblies. For this project the Nathan Hale Student Council received national recognition and state-wide applause. Another project in which the Hale Council was active is the Tulsa lnter-School Student Council in which it held the office of secretary. ln February the entire Hale council attended the City Student Council Convention at Tulsa University. v

Activity Program Our American Field Service program is sponsored by the student council. The funds necessary to send an American student abroad and to bring a foreign student to Hale were raised in one week. Foreign understanding was given another boost in a program called Living Let- ters. Under this program Hale exchanged tape recordings with a high school in Cambodia. The tapes are made in French and consisted of information about the two schools, the country of Cambodia, and the state of Oklahoma. Each month the council held Senior Boy-and-Girl-of-the-Month elections. The purpose of this activity is to promote a high scholastic level in the school. The student telephone directory, Hale,s Bells, is sponsored by the council each year. St. Patrick's Day was celebrated by a Shamrock Snack in the cafeteria before school. At the snack the students enjoyed a breakfast consisting of doughnuts and milk or coffee, and elected a St. Patrick. Two sock hops were sponsored by the student council. One followed the Hale vs. McLain football game, and the other was a money-raising project for AFS.
