Haldane Playmakers The Haldane Playmakers is now in the third year of its existence. This year, during the third term, it produced a program of three one act plays. They were 'The Door'. 'A Message from Khufun, and 'The Tenth Wordu. In May, the club gave nGIOW1Hg Painsn, a three-act comedy which had been produced on Broadway. In addi- tion. a Christmas play, 'Why the Chimes Rang', was given in collaboration with the Haldane Chorus for the Christmas assembly program. HThe Boorn was repeated at Peekskill High School on the English Field Day. Membership in the Playmakers is won only by taking part in the various activ- ities of the club. Members of the club not only act, but also build scenery, ar- range lights. work on costumes, act as prompters and property masters, sell tickets, act as ushers, and carry on advertising. The officers for 1958-1959 are: President, Alison Farquharsong Vice-President, Ray Adamsg Secretary, Marie Reilley. The organization is under the general direction of Richard Decker. The stage- craft activities are directed by Stanley Cornish, and the costumes are made under the direction of Miss Georgia Thiel. Bachelors' Club Home economics from a boy's point of view is made available through the Bachel- ors' Club. The members believe boys and men have a definite place in the home and should prepare themselves for it. They also have problems of choosing well balanced meals, of simple cookery, and of clothing selection and repair which can be solved only through the homemaking department. The boys were successfulin all their cook- ing, most of which was based on simple meal preparation. Tears were darned, and manners and table setting studied, as was the purchase of boys' clothing. The club was newly organized this year under the direction of Miss Georgia Thiel. The officers were: President, Kurt Kiesbye: Secretary-treasurer, William McCloskey. Nature Club The Nature Club was formed this year in order to present activities that inter- est boys of Junior high school age. George sponsor, and three other boys as leaders of Mosher has acted as assistant to the eight-member patrols. These leaders, in turn, have assistants. An effort is made to give each club member a definite responsibility. Some of this group's activities have been: knot tying, first aid, safety work, nature hikes, tracking, nature collections, Debate Club The Debate Club meets the second period had any formal debates. We have endeavored debating, and have sampled several books on in several informal discussions on selected assigned material to be looked up. Special and cooking. on Wednesdays. This year we have not to learn the ethics and principles of types of debating. The club has engaged topics. Individual members have been emphasis has been put on speaking before a group in order to gain confidence and poise. We hope next year to hold formal de- bates among members of the club. Archery Club Lovers of the out-of-doors, exponents of the ancient art of Robin Hood, experts of the green are the members of the Archery Club. During the spring and fall they may be found on the archery range enjoying this ancient sport. During the winter they will be found in the shop, repairing bows and arrows or constructing equipment. Officers of the club are: President, Kenneth Phillipsg Secretary, Dorothy Reilleyg Sponsor, Hiss Starr. Putnam Youth Club The Putnam Youth Club is a Haldane Central School organization established for the purpose of holding dances for members and guests once or twice a month in the school auditorium. Any Haldane student from the ninth to the twelfth year of high school, or any graduate of Haldane since 1956 may become a member of this organiz- tion upon approval of the membership committee. Thus tomorrow's graduate has an opportunity to learn of the problems ahead of him from those who have gone before him, and the recent graduate is permitted to keep his contact with the school during the first years when he is 'on his ownn. Miss Frances Starr is sponsor. Other teachers, parents, and Janitors have helped to make the dances a success. Officers of the club are: President, Jack Caseg Vice-President, Elizabeth Man- carig Secretary, Edith Eitnerg Treasurer, Gerald McElrath.
